Does anyone have a recipe for bait (coon, fox or coyote) that uses chicken eggs. Before you go crazy on me for using overpriced chicken eggs, these were leftover from some shoots this past summer. They were never for human consumption.
If it's a sort of secret recipe you can PM me.
Yes, I can use some whole for coons and probably canines but, carrying them on the line would be messy in the shell.

Used to be a moderator on here went by the name of wolfer. Sadly he has passed. He made an egg based lure that worked pretty good fresh. It did not not store well. Would get hard as concrete after sitting a year or so. He had a couple daughters that knew how to make it. I bet somebody on here can get hold of them. I doubt they give you their daddy's secret but you might could get them to make some for you. he said once he used the artificial tonquin that Dave Edwards made. The stuff Paul Dobbins makes and sells is from that formula.

Back in the mid 70's I would take eggs and put them in gallon jars and bury them. A old trapper told me he did it that way. When you cracked them open they were like peanut butter looking inside. I would make a dirt hole set and put the egg in bottom of hole and put a small hole in it. I caught more fox with them than Gophers chopped up and put in gallon jars and bury them to. I was always told bury them on the north side of a building. You did catch Coons and Skunks from time to time.

I found out the value and the interest most all animals have in eggs and egg prepared products. I have used them with good results for over 30 years now. Both as lure and bait products

Whole eggs and the meat of the eggs are both recognized as prime food sources for all forageing animals

Do you sell a good egg based bait, Bob?

I can't afford eggs to eat myself crazy

I do have a crazy chicken lady who won't eat eggs. I may try your buried egg trick next year as a change up.

I've got an egg based bait I'm rather fond of. Recently sold a half gallon of it to guy in the control business out of Texas that had got a hold of some I'd sent to a friend of his to try. Use it in a couple lures. It has several advantages. I'm learning some are hesitant to use it for fear of catching too many skunks and possums. I did have a bobcat visit a test set with it this fall. I was a little surprised at the strong intrest the cat had in it. Couple ways I put them up. The yolk after hard boiling it is one way I use it. The other is kind of a trade secret to some degree it seems.

Price of eggs, I might just by the base from that Jameson feller this year but don't tell him or he's likely to raise the price

Not sure about all that, but my son baits their cage traps with nothing but an egg. Target species is coon/possums. Last month he caught 4 fox (grey) and 2 bobcats. They say over time that egg emits a smell that we may not can smell but the critters sure can. Eye appeal helps as well.

I use simple eggs. Hard boiled. Catch every type of land critter we have.
Wife has chickens so not overly expensive.

Lot of threads in the Lure and Bait Making forum and its related archive forum on making egg based baits.

Just order some of Jamesons cultured egg baits. Never seen a mild lure of this type until I ordered some from him. It is absolute death down here on coyotes, fox, cats and coon. Coyotes in early fall and spring cant pass it up. All of his other lures and baits are downright fur producers.

Yup, make it simple. Dirt hole - whole egg in hole - cover with dirt and where the sun shines on it (if possible), critters will smell it. Asians call it "balut" :-)
