I believe Stihl has a professional line over $1,000. The homeowner stuff is garbage. The saws I'm running are $1,500 (500i). They're really top notch. The 261 is our small ground saw and they are around $700 they are also top notch. I have no experience with the homeowner stuff so I can't speak to that.

Thanks everyone I appreciate it.
271 is a farm boss with 18" bar
Yeah i think I'll be contacting corporate. I sure miss the days when everything was built with pride and built to last. Forgot to mention, While getting squared away the owner or manager of the shop came in I explained what happened he looks says I ran it with the brake so bearing melted. I said I never do that, brake engaged after the chain jumped because keeps losing tension since first use. He said sounds like the oiler failed at some point then insisted user error and then he left for a delivery. I've gone through 2 chains in the 3 uses because of how loose the chain gets. At least they gave me a free chain lol Is 271 the Farm Boss or the Wood Boss? I bought a 290 (029) Farm Boss 17 years ago and after I replaced the worthless "safe" chain on it, it turned out to be one of the best investments I ever made. But I noticed within about 5 years of my purchase the models started changing and the literature from Stihl started getting downright woke and all about being "green." It's a @#$+! chainsaw... It's supposed to be destructive to nature... That's literally why I bought it. To murder trees and burn their corpses. Mike

The bearing cage is plastic - the needles are steel. The new saws are not as good as the older ones. Very little is!

ignorant users always blame the engineer. Ignorant engineers blame the users. I to have said it before and will again. The homeowner lines are not worth buying. If you can't justify the cost of the pro models in Sthil or huskvarna you are better off to go with used saws or echo.

ignorant users always blame the engineer. Found the engineer ^^^ I have worked on enough automobiles and farm equipment to know your statement is demonstrably false. However, I don't blame engineers alone. The bean counters play their part too... The compromise between a brilliantly executed piece of engineering and material cost reduction, shipping weight, and labor assembly costs have given us the brilliant gems we all know and love. End users and field personnel will always get screwed once the bean counters get their heads together with the engineers to save 8/10 of a penny on material, 1.5 grams on a 15 lb product, or 1.7 seconds of assembly time. Patfundine what saws do you use then Husky or echo?
I'm also husqvarna certified. We sold both in the dealership I worked at. We also had jonesred, craftsman, efco, worx, and several other brands. I currently own a MS400c, MS361 - I built up a bit, MS361 - with a bigger engine i built, Husqvarna 51 that has been modified, and a husqvarna 550xp. Echo is a good saw, but I won't own one because I have worked on them. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-31375-166539-20230128_105050.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-31375-166540-20230128_105221.jpg) I burn over 12 cord of wood a year in my boiler, so my saws get used.

I like my 361 it's had the been built. I have been running av gas at 32:1. No stinking like 2 cycle exhaust and no gummed up carbs. Been running av gas for years but had the guy at the service desk at the dealer try to tell me it will bun the top of the piston out of them in just a tank or two of gas. He couldn't explain how I have 25 gal of it minimum through my 361 and not a single issue. It will be fine. Especially with the heavy oil mix. We had a poulan wild thing in the shop that we ran Ethonol race fuel in. We had to buy special oil and drilled out the carb jets a lot. That was the meanest poulan in the world for about 1 tank of fuel. When it melted down there was nothing left to rebuild.

I too like the 51 I bought new in 93-96? Just redid the carb and stuff, fresh top end, not seen fuel yet. Any tips for mods there and I'm all ears.
