I caped a few deer out for a friend back in December and they were crawling with ticks. A couple days later i realized that I had one buried in my leg. I was able to remove it without breaking any of it off in me. Now after 7 weeks it still itches constantly and looks about the same as it did the day i removed it. Has a small hole that would heal up. Anyone else ever had this happen? [Linked Image]

Usually when that happens there is a part still left in the site preventing it from healing. It will eventually heal or get fully infected. I'd dig it out a little more if it was mine.

... tick bites can act different than other bites been my experience...7 weeks seems longer than anything I’ve experienced though ... put some snuff on it I guess

Yes, I got one on a youth draw hunt with the boys the last week of Oct. It's finally no longer red and looks healed but still hard and could be pulled off like a scab.

I just checked it's no longer able to peel off. It's still dark purplish and looks like a fresh scar.

Good deal. My buddy was hunting with me 5 years ago and got one off him, and a few months later was running fever and feeling rough sporadically and he tested positive for lymes disease. It took him years to fully get over it

Don't mess around. Take yourself and any pic's you have and go to the Dr. Get on Doxycycline. tic viruses can sit dormant for long periods before they show up.

2X Don't mess with this. Go to a specialist and have it checked out. Lyme and associated goodies are not to be fooled with.

I would get checked for Lymes disease. Look at the marks they leave on otter after biting them after you flesh them. Not good.

Yes! Running dog trials many years ago I found one on my calf. Removed it and a week later I thought I was going to die. No energy, fever, muscle aches…flu symptoms. Had every test at the time run including a spinal tap and the Docs could find no cause.
And yeah, still have an indention in my calf from that hole that eventually healed up.

Go to the clinic, the doc will freeze it,excise it and put a couple stitches in it,then he will send the excised tissue away for testing.
5 minutes in the doc office.

I can have a tick in me for minutes and it will start to itch, once removed it will still itch on and off for weeks, many weeks, especially if it rubs on something.... My legs are scarred with tick bites, even after healing.

I've tried antihistamine creams, picking it open and re cleaning it, ignoring it, and it's always the same, itching for weeks.

I wouldn't screw around with it and hope it gets better. Take the good advice above and go to a Dr. None of us on here are one but at times some think they are. I've known a couple people that had lymes and it didn't sound fun to me.

Good luck.

Dog ticks never bothered me much. But black legged ticks are another story. The bites look like that sometimes for 6-8 weeks.
From what I’ve read about lyme disease is the tick must be attached for 36-48 hours for it to be passed on to you.
My method to avoid this is remove all clothing as soon as I come into the house. Throw all clothing in the dryer for ten minutes. This will kill all ticks. Then shower and check myself all over for ticks. Any I find stuck onme this way have at most been attached 8 hrs.
Even then the bites take forever to heal.
As for other tick diseases I’m not sure how quickly they can transfer to you.

Yea I know it was attached for a couple days because 2 days in a row while showering i thought it was a scab and on the 3rd day i figured out what it was. I think ill take the advice and get it checked

Do not just get checked for Lymes. Have the Doc do a Tick-borne panel on you as there are several diseases that can be passed by ticks. My specialty was Erlichiosis. Sickest I have evr been in my life.

Lyme disease is not something that you can tough out If you are bite by a tick that has it you will get it also And the nature of the disease can and almost certainly will be debilitating if not treated .The best part is when caught early it is easy to treat . Get tested and if it turns out that you are just having a hard time with it healing imagine what it would be like if you actually had developed Lyme . Over the past years I had had several times where a bite did not heal and I went for the test Never tested positive but just ignoring it could result in years of dealing with a whole lot of medical issues .

Thats how every bite reacts to me. Ittching, not healing and months later when it does heal it leaves a scar.

A guy in my beagle club found a tick in his beard and pulled it off, 3 days later he was dead from Rocky Mtn Spotted fever! It not just body parts that are left behind, it's injecting yourself with stomach contents by squeezing the body.

The best thing to do would be go to a doctor. That said, I've cut below the infected area numerous times and the wound fills in nicely in a few months.

About 5 years ago I had an itchy spot on my butt, and when I scratched it I thought I had scratched off a tick. It stayed as kind of a little knob under my skin that itched once in a while. During this I had a couple of tick panels done which were negative. In Summer of 2021 that spot on my butt got a little inflamed and hurt. It got bigger and it felt like a hot lump under my skin. To make a long, ugly story shorter it finally kind of came to a head and my wife had to put the squeeze on it (push the quacamole bowl away).. It got really ugly from there and I wound up on a course of Doxy as they figured the tick head or whatever caused a dang good Staph infection even after 5 years.

The Doxy worked but I still have a divot in my arse where the infection was.

I have had similar reactions in the past. All of them have been from deer ticks.
My doctor told me that when he has been in the woods he showers and washes from head to toe with Head and Shoulders shampoo on a body wash scrunchy. He said that the zink in the shampoo will cause any ticks to come off. So far it has been working well for me.
