Great job! First one is always the hardest. Like others I find that once a set connects with a fox it’s very likely to catch another, and another, and another…. I have one set out this season that has caught 5 red fox and one grey, another set has caught 4 reds and 3 greys. Other sets in the same locations, no action. I have another set literally 6 feet from the set that caught 5 reds and a grey, the second set has caught zero fur. Just goes to show you how important location is. 6 feet might as well be a mile in some cases. Could be how they are laid out in the travel pattern.

Congratulations on your first. You may want to rethink that basement skinning though, happy wife, happy life. Lol

Well done! Good luck on the next one. The 2nd one is where the wife stands in the doorway to the skinning room, hands on hips.....

Congratulations on catching your first fox.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Thanks a lot guys. The first one is a good feeling for sure. I got it all skinned out last night, will fleshed and board it tonight. I need to modify a raccoon board to work, a few minutes on a band saw should take care of that.
For fleshing, just remove the obvious meat? There's no fat really that I can see. There is some fat on them, it’s not everywhere, you’ll see it.

Awesome, that makes anyone happier. Not much to flesh on a fox. The little bit off fat and extre meat should be obvious. I've seen people flesh them with a spoon

Be sure to not leave Pelt on stretcher with fur side in for very long. They dry fast and tear real easily when turning for side out.

Be sure to not leave Pelt on stretcher with fur side in for very long. They dry fast and tear real easily when turning for side out. I am going to send it out for tanning, so won't turn it at all. Thank you for the advice though, if I ever do decide to sell one.

Thank you for the advice though, if I ever do decide to sell one. If overdried simply mist water over it with a spray bottle and let sit for a few minutes before turning. Thicker hides may take a bit longer to soak in or even a second misting but it works.
