SJ I have the trap set where the jaws and trigger are just under the surface level. less than a cm. Quicker to snap and absolute minimal snow to come up through.

So I guess you aren't driving the sled over it. I made about 6 passes over mine. I'll stick to the bigger traps if I have to drive over the sets, I can get away with them sunk a bit deeper. They way you described is how I reset the 750s, and not on the sled trails that I drive on regularly.

If im setting on the skidoo trail ill set the trap from the back of my sled and use a stick to blend the fresh snow covering the trap to look like skidoo track marks. the down side is you will be resetting them more often. Late night run today after work. Leaving at 4pm to do my 240km run.

Yea. It's the regular trigger too, way too light for what I'd like it at. Was surprised. Call Duke traps and they will send you replacement (adjustable tension) pans free of charge. I just got an email from Bill today after I emailed him about buying some replacement dogs and mentioned the pans and that is what he told me. All of mine have the floppy pans, not sure that I will switch to the adjustable pans, looks like there is a lot more joint there for moisture to potentially get in and freeze up than on the floppy ones. But that is just conjecture, I've no evidence that this would be a problem. Mine are mostly about 5-6 lbs with the floppy pans, which is about where I like to run my traps, when you get some frost in them and a crust over them that will increase the pan tension and I don't want it too high. Trail sets like that they are usually traveling right along and step down hard with no hesitation, so you tend to get nice deep catches regardless of pan tension, but a higher pan tension may reduce snapped traps when driving over them.

I bought the 850 off the Duke table at the Escanaba convention a couple years ago. He said that he’d send me an adjustable pan, I told him that I’m from Canada, says “no problem”. Once he found out how much shipping was, he said “no more”…lol. I’m thinking kinda like you about them seizing up or something, it’s sitting in my parts box. I should lighten some of the sets that are off the trail though. John Heart said to go with 8-10ish pounds, but he was talking summer time ADC wolf trapping.

Ryan, I was taught to always set your traps, wether trail sets or cubby sets to always place your trap jaws parallel with the trail or entrance to the cubby. Was told there’s chances of high catches or even misses due to the jaw making contact before totally catching and a quick paw withdrawal before being caught. Always set like that ever since. Can’t recall missing much or high catches since. Thoughts? I too am dealing with a coni shy wolverine. Had a bucket hang up a catch and now he’s very cautious to any set and won’t go near a bucket. I changed up with some #9s, we’ll see.. I've heard and seen that as well but I still set the jaws perpendicular to the cubby entrance. I used to miss a few but once I got dialed in plus with the help of guide stocks I rarely miss in footholds at least for lynx anyways. I've seen tracks at a set though with a snapped tracks and you could tell it stepped on the jaw and the trap lifted it's foot upwards when the trap fired

Rabbit lynx cycle is climbing fast here Boco. I'm going to set a few more of my good spots for lynx this weekend. I set a couple spots for lynx last weekend too. few snares and traps. I can Extend my trapping season an extra 3 weeks or so after marten is done. Even longer if the shoulder fur doesn't thin out s the season runs later here in some zones. Not looking forward to the seasons ending as I'm having a lot of fun trapping this year. Enjoying spending more time at my own camp and seeing Bobbys progress not to mention the marten line is still producing a lot of males. Time to get busy. Just needs to be fleshed though so starting at quarter to midnight isn't so bad. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-40115-247136-img_20250206_234102089.jpg) He was a fat one. Batter get busy now.

Picked up a wolf on the way to town last night. The tracks were fresh on Saturday pretty close to some wolf traps. Fresh tracks on my trail coming to town and had a young grey wolf in one of the 750s.

I skinned it right there on the trail and set another wolf trap using the carcass for bait.

The Henry Golden Boy I won this summer has found a place as my dispatch/backup gun. I carry it around in a tikka soft case strapped to my cargo rack. It's Got a wolf and wolverine so far and it's still at 100% accuracy. Old timers used to say you run the barrel over the longest hair on the neck/shoulder of a guns first kill so that's been done. Old superstition. Nice smooth cycling 22 magnum. Always liked the Exposed hammer especially during colder months. The Tikka Ranahan might be the next rifle for me. Open sight handy rifle. Best for winter since open sights never fog up. Missing the BLR 223 lately. My usual Stalling post when I'm watching the time go by with thawed fur in front of me. Going to get the feet, tail and skull out on last night's wolf. I can't stand green belly so it's always really easy motivation to get the wolves and wolverine fur off the Carcass asap. Whether it's at 3 am on a weekday or right there on the trail while the animal is still hot. I howled every so often while I skinned in the bright moonlight last light. I was hoping to hear something coming down the river but I'm happy with one for now. More effort towards the wolves once marten traps get snapped soon.
