Partner just messaged on the Inreach saying one wolf at the caribou gut pile. His turn to keep a wolf today. I'm finishing up and boarding the one from a couple nights ago right now.

Our weather isn't much different than what you folks have going on with a lot of snow and single digits or sub zero temps for another week or so then more snow , one of the last storm fronts dropped 2' of snow in two days .

Good morning.
just got home last night from Bobby and the U11 teams first out of town tournament in Dawson City YT. They finished with a 2-2 record. Lots of lessons learned and mainly they've seen a higher level of competition than they're used to so that's good for their development. Bobby got a bit frustrated one game and laid out a player much bigger than he is with a clean body check. Caribou meat and lots of bush work is making him a solid young feller. I'm Looking forward to running traps after work today and tomorrow especially with the season winding down. Starting out with the delta line today then the marten line tomorrow. We have longer daylight now so I've got about two hours after work to spot some delta dogs running on the big river. Decent warm day today with a bit of overcast.

Eager to play. Bunch of kids that just love the game. We landed in Dawson with about 6 minutes to puck drop for the first game against the host team. luckily the organizers were understanding and gave us 15-20 minutes to get ready. Kids played well and outskated their opponents but a few lucky bounces made the difference and the game was lost 6-4. Sure brought up memories of my younger days playing hockey. The nervousness before the game turning into effort on the ice. The realization that they can skate with the other teams. Big confidence booster for the kids. Bobby and his defense partner earned the nickname "Bash brothers" for their rough and tumble style. I had fun.

Quite the chase on Mackenzie a couple nights ago. I'll write a little more when I get a few minutes.

I left to traps with high hopes like always. Took off right at 5 from work and had some wolves on the run earlier in daylight. One by one they left the trail and went into the trees with no sightings. Over the years I seen that quite a few times and they usually come back out once I pass. I seen a bunch of ravens take off further upriver in the direction the tracks were heading so I made a trail up into the willow island in hopes they would hang around. I figured they had a dead moose in the willows but didn't see it. I'm sure it's there though. Once i was done running traps I made a fire at the camp and got ready to travel to town. Sure enough fresh tracks on my trail and before long they started running hard for the trees again. I caught up to a black one first. Shot it right away and took off after the other tracks. I Caught up to the second black one just as it hit the willows and couldn't get a shot so I turned back to the main river and picked up more tracks running. I picked the biggest looking trail and followed. Caught up just in time to turn the grey wolf away from the river bank and back onto the open river. I quickly got it and took off around the willow island again in the opposite direction. Crossed a bunch of running/bounding tracks and picked the biggest ones again. these tracks went the long way across the river but once again I just got close enough to see a giant grey make it up the river bank with no chance for a shot. Still happy with a couple though. Lots of Fun to chase full blast in the dark once again. Wolves really howled while I skinned but my phone was dead by then so no video. If i had daylight or even bright moonlight to see more of what was going on I think i wouldve got 6-7 easily but in the dark moonless night all i could do was pick tracks and follow at full speed hoping to catch up. Thinking to get at least one of my friends to go and find them again this weekend.

One of my bros is on his way to town. We're going to see what we can find in the wolf grounds after work. Couple good drivers can do some damage for sure especially with some daylight to work with

Dang, that sounds like a hoot. Would be fun. It would be easier to maneuver a handgun in situations like that, but I don't think you can do that in your neck of the woods. Congrats on the wolves.

It sure is a rush and probably one of the top 3 things I would like to do everyday. A handgun would be nice but for the longer shots it's hard to beat a long gun. Adrenaline is going full blast plus the wind in the face and cold hands so it's nice to have a rifle to settle in behind for some stability.

Few pics from Bobby's wisdom fest project. Judging by his answers I'll say he's paying full attention to his old man.

Keep up the good work fella's !

Bobby wasn't feeling well earlier So I ran his snares for him. He sure made me work hard getting his 5 lynx back to the truck. 5 out of 7 snares today.
[Linked Image]
I was smiling the whole way though.
[Linked Image]
His first white toes. We will go back when he's better and reset everything. Still have two snares set so we have something to look froward to when we reset in a couple days. Marten line tomorrow. Thawing traps off marten is the only plans I have for the evening plus maybe sort out some frozen critters
