I'm confused about 330 springs spreading out too wide for your setters. Do you have a small set of setters?

How do 330 springs (or any other bodygrip spring) spread any wider than the corners...unless they slip over the corners?

Age isn’t what makes springs weak according to what I’ve read from the people in the spring business.

It is my understanding that excessive heat, rust (or comparable chemical damage), over extending, and excessive numbers of compressions are what weaken quality springs.

Yes, SwampWolf, some slip over the corners and are tough to set especially while standing in the water. Thanks for all the replies guys. Happy trapping.

Forgiveness is just a prayer away.

The last Victor #330s springs I changed after the 1st year. I should have changed them right out of the box...or taken them back.

Have had the same thing happen with other brands...and I've had some last 40 years (the old BMI 220s).

I'm convinced some guys wouldn't know the difference between a good/strong spring and a totally clapped out one that should have been replaced years ago.

There may be an advantage to setting them by hand. You can gauge strength by how difficult they are to set.

It’s frustrating fishing a snapped 330 out of the drink only to grab ahold of it and it squeezes without much effort.

Frustration sparks temper. In my younger days they may have gotten fired into the woods, like the fourth B&L backwards stop loss that snapped on my hand. Lol. I hated those traps,,,,
