A good tool but must be paid off every month! It's way more than credit cards. People owe money on their camper, boat, furniture, atv's, snowmobiles, appliances, home equity, and on and on and on. Consumer debt is at an all time high and most families are drowning in it. It will crash and they will lose their stuff, but they're mostly leftists that live like that, so the government will bail out the people who made all these bad choices, and the banks that facilitated the madness.

People have been leaving beyond their means for years. They need to keep up with the neighbors you know. Two generations ago it wasn't uncommon for a farm family of 6 to live in a 1200 SF house with one bathroom. Now every family of 4 needs 3000 SF, 11 bathrooms with a 17 car garage for the motorhome, snowmobiles, boats, etc. that all still have payment books associated with them.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I remember back when a Brother-In-Law was so proud that a dealer sold him a camper and gave him a 10-yr term to pay for it! He thought he was getting a heck of a good deal.
I recently inquired about a little house in my hometown. A lady's husband passed and she was selling properties and moving away. The little house is assessed at $8000 and she's asking $50,000 for it. I'm waiting for some repo's to come back on the market.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Keep cash on hand or in the bank? gold? silver?

Keep cash on hand or in the bank? gold? silver? Good questions that I have been asking as well. Having cash in the bank right now seems fruitless, as it's worth a little bit less every day. But if there is to be a major correction or collapse, how much more value will that cash have? How long can a guy wait? You get the idea. Those of you who are familiar with what happened in 2008, and have expertise in this area, what would you do if you had say $100k in liquid funds right now? So real estate is ripe for a major correction, but how will that affect the price of other things?

If debt causes a collapse how safe is money in a bank? Treasury will have to tell the fed to create enough money to cover fdic insurance and it will be even worse.

Bernie, after reading a lot of financial opinions on here, Im not sure that it is just a 'leftist' problem...lots of advice given about the benefits of debt..good grief

I bet there will be a nation wide bailout for people that live beyond their means. Credit card forgiveness!

1929 should tell you how safe money in the bank is. I like having a cash stash. It just makes me feel secure. It may be worthless some day but it will still be worth something just because it's been our currency forever. I like a little silver but gold is out of reach for me. Just doesn't make sense.

63 years old, truck, car, house, owe not one penny .Use your credit only if you have the money in bank to pay it off. Get 3 -5 % back , nothing wrong with that and no yearly fees. Question is what will the dollar be worth and will you be able to get it out of bank. First thing they will do is close banks and give out food and gas coupons, so now you will completely dependent on the government.

Just doesn't make sense. having money is good , but if things get bad ask what are you buying with the paper money if the answer is food , fuel , medicine and ammo then buying some of each and storing it now with part of the money is a good idea. a little at a time. having seen the supply line failures in all 4 in the last 3 years store what you eat , eat what you store if there are tools you can buy to stretch your food dollars like a dehydrator , freezer and canning supplies to take advantage of the sales when you can to stretch what you can. consolidate ammo to a few cartridges that do most things decent and go deep rather than a little of everything. fuel you can't store a ton but you can store many tons of heating wood get a few years out it costs you mostly time and labor Meds , work on getting off anything you can and slowly stocking what you can . on scripts pay close attention to the refill date and mark your calendar for 7 days before the refill date if you work it right you can sometime get 5-6 days extra on each refill , it isn't a lot but if you are on something long term you can get a month built up. parts for things you will need to repair , tools and such are all good also keep the cash reserve and work on owing no one

how good will it be to have dollars if the dollar becomes worthless or is devalued by our government.....one dollar becomes worth 0.10$ and everything goes digital-all transactions need to be done digitally or they are illegal?
The best thing to have if there is a calamitous crash of the country is #1 common sense and critical thinking skill, being physically fit is #1a.. skills are #2 and mental toughness is #2a.
