Does anyone use them to start seedlings or are they too bright?

I use these and they work very well. Keep the lights on top of the plants as they emerge and raise the lights as they grow. Key is to keep the lights on top of the plant tips to prevent the plants from getting leggy.

Only problem you will have is you have to make the frame. I use paracord with taut line hitches for raising and lowering the frame.

Gary I’ve been using this very inexpensive kit for a few years and the led lights work really well.
Got it off Amazon and less than $30. Enough trays and lids plus lights for 72 seedlings.

Been pretty pleased with this set up.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

My wife uses some small LED grow lights for some stuff she has going. Most of her lights she has had for years. The big shelf she uses to start things has 8 - 4ft fluorescent shop lights with grow tubes in them. Not the best picture of little LED light. Not sure what kinda mess she has going in this tray. Don't look to good to me but I don't question her plant stuff. Don't end well if I do and she usually ends up with more than she can use anyway.

We have large plastic shelving units about 6' tall with shelf about 16" apart. We put our several seed trays on the shelf and have several varieties of lights we raise and lower hanging from the shelf above. What have very speci grow lights. But the cheapest thing has been the 4' led shop lights and they work just as well.

Another year has passed and I have not got the green house lean-to built on the south side of the house for my wife's seed starting once again.

Thanks for the replies. I have one above some tomatoes and it seems like the leaves are burning a little so I raised the light up about a foot above the plants and will monitor it closely.

We normally keep ours 3 to 6" above them.

I use flourescent and no experience with LEDs. Do they make full spectrum LEDs? That's what I would look for full spectrum or daylight bulbs. But like others have said right down on the sprouts with it. They need to be blasted with light since artificial light is only a fraction of what sunlight provides. They get leggy and spindly if you don't.

I also use a small fan on them to get a small amount of motion to them to toughen them up and move humidity of of them to avoid damping off.

Full spectrum led are the way to go. So much cheaper to run and they create no heat. Very efficient

I don’t have mine up and running yet for this season. Will start it up next week. Our last average frost here is about end of April, so I wait until about end of February or start of March to get the seedlings going. There are six seedling set ups in this package, enough for 72 seedlings. Here are instructs if that is helpful.
Only thing I had to get was three “double” 110-USB converters like for phone chargers. I have multiple outlets on my bar/counter so I can plug them in and cover all 6 seedling containers. The led lights are USB chords, small one end, standard on other.
Use very little electricity.

Double usb port…

Here are instructs that show how each of the six kits are put together…
