Correct Back in the day county plows first mission was to clear and sand the bus route With the skeleton force nowdays that doesn't happen Bus is empty anyway as parents drive their kids to school So yah liability becomes the issue when people let somebody else make up their minds for them thats who you blame

I agree, early release yesterday and cancelled today all on the hype.
We got a drift across the patio 3 ft deep, snow in the parking lot ... maybe 4 inches.

But something you northerners miss I'd when you get snow it's snow. When we get snow it's often rain that turns to sleet then snow on top of that. So a sheet of ice under the snow. Worse yet is when it's rain that freezes and makes black ice. Road just looks wet but is a layer of ice. I got on some of that a few weeks ago in my 2wd ranger on my 127mile drive to work at 1am a few weeks back. I got lucky and got clued in that it had into black ice from just wet pavement on the on ramp so when I went off the road I was going slow. On hwy 62 it was wet pavement not slick at all, the on ramp and I 265 and I64 were all black ice for about 45 miles then it went back to just wet pavement. It was odd how the rod went from fine to sheet of ice back to fine.
Up north it gets cold and stays that way the ground stays cold and is not warmer than the air and snow blowing in and creates layers of ices.

It dose make for good jokes about not being able to drive in snow vs the north but the conditions are not the same at all.

You have it all figured out.... crazy

We get black ice sleet rain freeze snow also. Good grief

Have you ever been responsible for a bus load of children and had to drive in crappy conditions, back roads possible, and watch out for all the incredibly poor drivers on the road these days?
Probably not. It is not as easy as you might think. Safety of kids is pretty darn important.

X2 It ticks off the parents that want the free babysitting though.

Free babysitting? You are starting to sound like a Democrat politician. Lol
Free college too, I suppose. Who do you think is paying for all these kids to go to their free schools? Pretty sure we all pay the government at least three times for every dollar we get. Free babysitting SMH.

Everyone pays for the schools with or without kids, but the parents who send their kids there don't have to pay for a babysitter the hours their kids are there. That is all a lot of them care about.

I get your point. ADC just messing with you.

Another thing I can't figure out is, if a teacher can only teach one subject, why are the students expected to study them all? laugh

Why would they have to drive for virtual learning? That's what all that Covid money was for. Kids have had their own cars for decades. Every farm kid I knew back in the 70's had their own car and drove to school. And then on snow days, they are still out driving to sports practices or just out and about.

Yup, it's the lawsuits, it has nothing to do with safety. The cars and trucks are waaaay safer than they were back in the 70's. AWD, air bags, anti-lock brakes, etc. etc. etc. etc. You could get a school permit to drive a family vehicle to school at 14 years old when I was in school.

The main difference between then and now is that people are a LOT dumber, and lawyers are ready to pounce on anyone who might have the ability to pay or have insurance, when dumb people do dumb things.

Ah . . . how I miss the whining . . . it's the parents' fault . . . it's the teachers' fault . . . it's the administrations' fault . . . it's the (fill in the blank)'s fault . . . don't forget the lawyers . . .

Retired almost 13 years now after 31 years teaching high school biology. I cherished snow days. I basked in them. 'Cause I usually went ice fishing most every snow day. How beautiful those days were to peek out the window of the ice fishing shanty in between schools of crappies to check for a flag whilst Mr. Heater was purring away.

Now carry on . . . LOL

15" or so here. I travel 150+ miles per day for work. I took the day off. I don't need to risk my life for the company anymore.

Every where it gets below freezing gets black ice and freezing rain. But I'm sure we have many more days it stays warm enough for it than you do. We often hover right on the freezing Temps while you are closer to 0. It as 70 here today will be 27 tonight.

Exact same discussion going on in our home

I agree, but with this online learning they seem to justify it around here. But, it's not the same as being in school. We saw that during the pandemic and how depressing it was for the kids.
