I have but only in Japan, there as varied as anything else, didn’t know there were any here in the US, over there as far as accommodations go you could get everything from a squat toilet to an European style with a heated seat, and a room as fancy as one at the Waldorf or as simple as a cubicle little bigger then a twin bed and a shared bathroom somewhere on hopefully the same floor
If you have concerns I would call and ask the hotel

Anyone ever sleep in a Japanese Motel?? My wife and I are getting ready for a trip to see the Grandkids in Wisconsin and on the way my wife wanted to stay at a Japanese Hotel for a change. She was looking on line and they all seem the same. No Beds no chairs. You sleep on Mats on the Floor, Eat at the table on the floor, even sit on the floor watching TV. My Fear is the Bathroom!!!!! I would be afraid to look at where they go in there!!! Japanese toilets are confusing. My destroyer was in dry dock for six weeks in Sasebo, Japan many years ago. This was not a common port of call for Navy ships, meaning bars, etc, we're pretty much set up for locals. I've never heard of a Japanese motel here in WI, but good luck with your experience.

They could either have "squatty potties" or they could have super hi-tech western style toilets that have what looks like a TV remote control on an armrest. I can almost guarantee that if it is authentic Japanese (not run by east Indians) it will be the cleanest hotel you've ever been to. They tend to be crazy germaphobes.
A quick phone call to the front desk (not booking agency) should tell you what you need to know.

My wife and my Daughter in Law are planning it. She lives in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee in Waukesha County. Our Son and his wife gave us 2 Beautiful Grandkids. He is employed in Engineering at Briggs and Stratton and she is a Pediatrician. Every year during spring Break we go and my wife and our Daughter in Law try something new. Last year it was French. This year it will be Japanese since Darcys mother is Oriental and will be there. I do not care as long as the food is good!!!

I do not have the Itenerary. I just know that we are going to Wisconsin and about three different States. We will loop through the UP and then down through Michigan then through Indiana and then back up into Chicago and eventually back to Wisconsin. I know that my son and my Grandson will be taking a Charter one day for Fishing in Lake Michigan. That will be up near Green Bay. The Hotel may be near or in Chicago. I do not know!! I just want to see the Grandkids AGAIN!!!

In Latin America Motels let their rooms by the hour. Hotels are by the night. Have had some funny exchanges over the years with the connotation of what the difference in uses are for Motels vs Hotels.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Love the food and do miss it, was there in the '60s off and on. Lived in that style room then, but not sure how I would do now after several back operations. I did stop in a SMALL Japanese restaurant in the outskirts of Spearfish 30 years ago and was surprised how I remembered to use the chopsticks and a little bit of the language. I am sure I could not find that place again. Maybe two tables and a small counter.......jk

Talked to my wife and it is NEITHER a Motel nor a Hotel. It is an Asian Spa Club that has sleeping and Asian Dining. I guess the women are all getting Makeovers while us men are going to hang out at a Cabelas somewhere. Maybe even Fish or even go to a gun club somewhere. This is definitely a vacation for the women. If it were my Vacation I would want an Elk Hunt!!!

Still do with a public toilet.
Got a gift from my brother. It was 3 AA batteries with a note that said, Gift Not Included.
