simple way to cook them , 2-3 sheets of aluminum foil laid of flat ,lay your cleaned squirrel in , some butter salt and pepper then a good squirt of your favorite bbq sauce fold that up in the first sheet , flip it over fold the other way ,and if you like one more time again different direction
bake about 350 for 35 minutes you can pull coals out of a fire and lay the foil packet right on the coals , this is the reason for a 3rd sheet
the mess throws right out for simple clean up

Cant stand the smell of them.Have to be pretty hungry before I'd eat one.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I use this on greys the kids loved it camping they were asking me to bring squirrel to every camping trip if your going to eat a red it would be worth a try.

Pressure cook for about 5 minutes or so, debone, cook in chili. You need a couple of them though.............also good in baked pot pie ie. pie crust, chopped up taters, carrots, peas etc., gravy, mix it up and dump it in the pie and put the top on and bake.................

When I and 2 of my friends went squirrel hunting, we shot all of them. The red squirrels tasted just as good as the fox and gray squirrels. Just a lot smaller !

Back in the old days, when my kit mostly consisted of a pocket knife, a Model 94 Daisy, and a "quarter pack" of BB's, Red Squirrels were my favorite prey when camping in the Upper Peninsula. I'd smite them, skin and gut, and me Mudder would fry them up and we'd proudly eat them with the trout we would catch in what ever creek we camped along. Good stuff.
