Reading the first post I thought, if ya need GPS in yer shed, its probably time to tidy it up a little bit, so ya can find the door without it.

Reading on I learned something else.

When finding a antler , inspect it carefully and if it has a GPS tracking devise in it, leave the shed, take the GPS and drive it 50 miles down and interstate, then fling it out the window, preferably or a ravine bridge or into the muddy middle bit.
I would probably do the 40 minutes drive and drop the thing of in Kentucky grin

Go home, have a drink and smile.

Nobody fights the overreach of some game depts at what point is everything not “theirs” I go around here with them on several things they can’t seem to let go of.

If you hit a deer here it’s yours not theirs unless it’s a trophy rack then it’s theirs again just how do horns change the ownership like that? They take no responsibility for “their” deer running loose when they claim ownership up to the time it runs out in front of you then it your deer. LOL

Same with trapping you buy a license then catch tag say a bobcat now if you sell it to a taxidermist he needs a fur buyers license because he’s considered a commercial user even though he’s not a fur buyer really.

If you find a rack in the woods attached to the skull you can’t pick it up here if you have a rack that you tagged and shot that looks the same they think they can take it not knowing the story behind it. Don’t agree with that never ending in and out ownership claims based on I can do it thinking. FYI the racks they pile up go on a state auction if not to a mount for whatever purpose.

As far as I am concerned they will be treated on my property like any other trespassing idiot that did not read the signs telling them to keep out.

Shed hunting in Montana is legal except in areas closed which are certain winter game ranges. People who do this in these areas early are thieves and several have been prosecuted for it. These areas are controlled to protect spring calving seasons and to make it fairer for all. Its a big event with hundreds lining up to per take.

Since the Statute of Limitations has run its course.....I'm sure glad they didn't have this level of technology years ago when I was working on a trail crew in Yellowstone National Park.

I found a winter-killed bull elk with about 355" of antler up Soda Butte Ck in the Lamar Valley.

Not only did I take it out to the road and smuggle it out of the park, but I packed it out to the road on a horse owned by the NPS!

It was one of my earliest environmental "crimes!" I was 18 that summer.
