Didn't see your post till now.

People eat them. There like green onions or a cross between green onions and garlic

what's your trick to cleaning them? I love the things but hate the cleaning. I couldn't imagine cleaning that many.

Cross between an Onion and Garlic. Great in Soup Beans Fried Taters Omelettes and my wife loves them on her Pizza.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

We had a guy call.just a few minutes ago who wants 500 to 700 lbs a week but we can't do it. We can't physically dig that many on top of what he's already digging

We call them leeks. I read ramps is a appalachian term. Kind of neat to hear different terms according to where you live. All sorts of health benefits as well from eating them it appears.

What kind of areas do you find these?

Beaver and trout ponds? Or more river flood plains?

Hold 6-10 ramps by the greens and spray water from a hose down the bulb to the roots until you have all the skin and stuff you don't want down at the roots. Then just cut the roots of and all the other stuff will come off with them.

I find them in wetter/lower areas around our sugar maples. They can be relatively easy to find since they're one of the first few plants to green up in the spring.

Where I find them the top layer of soil is a tangled mess with smaller roots so digging them can be a bit tricky. I end up using a shovel. Someone suggest some type of hoe type device on another ramp thread.

I give away more than I keep for myself. The year after I had covid it changed the way garlic/onion tasted and smelled and I couldn't stand the sight of those things, but thankfully I'm back to normal, or as normal as can be. Knock on wood, I just finished another round of covid, hoping it doesn't knock out my smell/taste again.

Here they are on north facing slopes for the most part.

They will grow at lower elevations. And even on flat land in places.

The don't like standing water.

Here there called ramps up north they're called leeks.

Groups here sponsor ramps dinners for their communities and churches to raise money. Fire depts..are big on it too.

I just sold 100 dozen to the owner of a little store in Newton Wv..who's wife is gonna have a ramp feed Friday and them sell pizzas and burgers and stuff.

We always have the first ones for sale of the season because Jerry planted boocoos on his farm years ago and where the sun hits em the are 2 to 3 weeks earlier than in other parts of the state.

They're not up in some parts of our state right now.

Love posts showing people making money from nature. Hunting, trapping, or foraging for profit takes both knowledge and skill, as well as, the ability to find/create a market. Thank you for sharing your adventures Cathryn! The stories and pics are awesome!

Another question not related to ramps. You keep saying "jerry's farm" Isn't it part yours too? LOL asking for a friend that gets into trouble referring to things as "theirs" instead of "ours" . LOL

This is how the drive way looks today where my little personal patch ramps is. My guess be end of April first May before I see any. I will be following your escape though.

It's Jerry family farm. It's been in his family for 100 plus years. I love the farm and going up..I like brush hogging alot...but not too steep. Lol. Ad I just like being their ..I like fishing in his pond. It's really relaxing.

We're notarried either so it's technically not " ours" but I help him on it and we treat it like everything their is "ours" but ots Jerry homepage.

He bought my homeplace from my mom a few years ago. That's where we live.

He doesn't feel.like the place we live in is his either but iit is.
.I wish he did.

I feel bad often because I know he misses his place . It's just been different to him since his mom passed away.

He never says his farm..he just says the farm..but I don't people to think I'm after his place or anything because I'm not.

I'd wanna be with him if he lived in a tent.

We'd figure it out.
Mac..thank you. Jerry does most of the digging. Im.doing lots.more.cleaning this year because Jerry can't do it alll..and I market them and sometimes I sell and sometimes we both sell.it just depends on how many we need to dig or clean

Tha thanks everyone for checking in on our progress. I'm at work so of I haven't answered your questions I will in a little bit when I get some time.
I'm not trying to ignore anyone's questions
