Cathryn,
I enjoy your posts. Thank you for taking the time to do it. Ramps- I would have know nothing about them without your post. Some people on social media need to find something better to do rather than pick apart peoples posts. They just cannot simply enjoy it. People might get frustrated and not post anymore because of the comments. I hope you do not stop posting. I know there are times when I just will not post threads myself because its not worth the aggravation. You cannot please everyone nor should you have to.

Cathryn, didn’t work, still can’t send you a pm. Just getting excited over my marten that Jerry set aside for me, too .

Always wanted to try ramps, I know what leeks are, the ones I buy , love using them in all kinds of things. I’m happy for you, that they do so well for you every season.

They make a seed stem and pod before they whither in summer. Some bulbs also have a rhizome on them and spread from that like quack grass. When I have transplant some to start my own little patches. I always save the bulbs with the rhizome for transplanting and eat the others.

Whoever said ramps give ya ripe gas ..I disagree. I intentionally ate about a dozen last night at 1:30 am..when I got done washing ramps..so I'd have good bad gas when we we looked In the truck together... went on our 5 hr selling trip today and I didn't even get one little toot out of em mad

I'm wondering if sautéing them takes the bite and fumes out of em??

I'm gonna eat some raw ones next trip and find out. Lol

I got there at 1030 and was sold out by 1230.
I haven't counted yet but we're close to 2500.00. Am

Probably over that.

People LOVE these things

Did some reading about ramps and west Virginia. Pretty interesting. We don't have ramps here but in the spring we have rocky mountain oysters. There are a few oyster festivals. grin

When I did my student teaching at Tigert Valley High School in W. Va. back in the early 70's ramp season was a new experience for me. Most all the young folks and staff dug and ate ramps come spring. I remember one day when the boys were playing some basketball and I was supervising.

I started to get an odd odor that I smelled in the gym. I asked one of the staff what it was I was smelling. They laughed and said it is ramp season and most everyone eats them around these parts. That was something new that I learned. Obviously when you get heated up and sweat it comes out of your pores. They had frequent ramp feeds down there.

I made friends with the athletic coach that took me to some fine native trout fishing in the hills in that area. Great time of my early but short career in W. Va.

Ok. You don't need to clean mine... I don't want to eat them, I want to plant them!

Do you plant them in woods or fields and let them naturaliz?
