My 6 year old came home with paper they had to make a leprechaun trap. Leprechauns like sparkling things, gold, not listening doing the opposite of what you tell them... So Kendell painted the rainbow with glitter, we put up sign saying don't step on the x, stay out of kendells gold. I set a little victor to catch this little guy. We are not all the way done have some finishing touches but I'm pretty she will be the only one with a real trap [Linked Image]

The best part about the trap is that you guys did it together.

Rex your right. Me and my son have tons in common, so we do a lot together. Sis does tag along in trapping checks. But she is girly, so it hard to find things to do lol, but we have built this plus we built a bucket trap for mich in the shed the other day and have caught a few.. we go check it every day together lol... But not much into painting nails, don't have much are to style, I have pulled out a few cart wheels for her, and to prove I could.

Many years ago now but we used a real (albeit small) cage trap. Baited with gold painted rocks. Danged if it didn't work. Unfortunately, he rolled the cage and escaped before light, but he did loose some his gold coins (gold dollars) in the process of escaping the cage. Guess we should of staked it down. smile

Good job dad.

Adc we talked about a live trap.. my son has a small one, but though the victor suites us better. I had to promise Kendell it wouldn't hurt it's foot

The problem with using a foothold on leprechaun is they typically escape by slipping their boot off and leave it behind. Had it happen here two years ago. By the looks of the leprechaun dust in the catch circle, it took him a while. Must have spooked him pretty good too cuz he went straight to the toilet and peed. Turned the whole works green!

I have an adopted brother-in-law, he built one a couple years ago with a duke 1 1/2. Also had a tripwire setup made of fishing line with a paint can on top of the fridge in case the leprechaun was trapwise and avoided the foothold. That one got his dad when he got up for work in the morning smile

My suggestion: Wrap the jaws to pad them so the teacher can see the trap isn't intended to hurt and doesn't think it's cruel and react badly. Don't expect the teacher to know anything about traps or to accept what you told your daughter.

Ed I've wired it open in 3 different spots so it will stay open and not set off. The wife told me that I had to make it kid safe.

I've used zip ties.
When my son was little he was bound he was going to snare a squirrel by the power pole near the garage. He made a slip knot in pieces Polly rope laid it out by the pole with a wall nut from tree in neighbors yard in center. Wasn't even fastened to anything just laying there.
Anyways I took a squirrel tail saved from hunting I had in the garage. Took the nut cinched the tail in the loop. Was one pretty excited little boy when came home from school found that. I did tell him that it wasn't such a good idea seen as only had the squirrels tail so don't do it again. We got a lot of mileage out of that one snare though. Telling everyone how he had caught a squirrel.
When we went to parents teacher conference at school
Teacher said he was such a nice boy but called him little liar quit the story teller. To which I had words with that lady after asking what lie he had told. Guess all exploits told of with dad couldn't be real. Let her know my kids went places done things other kids didn't. My son telling stories like kids do. But wasn't no lie.
Not sure how old my son was before he figured out I got him with squirrels tail.

I did the same thing for my son. set some #0's with some fake gold coins. I went to Joanne or Michaels and bought a small shoe buckle. My sons face lit up when we had the buckle in the #0 longspring. I still remember him saying we almost got him. He's older now, but still remembers that morning and still has the buckle.

OK, you have made it safe, good move, but that's not what I was getting at. The teacher may think it would hurt a leprechaun and take issue with that. Never underestimate the stupidity of the woke.
