In many ways (not all) Russians enjoy many freedoms that we haven't been able to for at least a couple of decades.

Maybe things like building permits are easy to obtain where you live, but in most parts of Russia you build whatever you please. When you're finished you might have the local building inspector stop by, then you pay for your your permit. In most States here, just try starting a business; it's nearly impossible for a small business owner to comply with all the regulations. I have a friend who loaded up a skid-steer, mini excavator, and some other equipment in a couple of containers; shipped them to Russia and now has a thriving business. That is not communism.
