Calm down Chris don't worry about anything because nothing will turn out the way you want it to. Welcome to my world. You will have to at one time or another deal with a bunch of illegals if you lived in TX> year round. I dont know that that would not be better. Couldnt work a 14 day contract job because 2 logging crews and a road scraper show up. The bull nats mosquito and ants look to be in record # s this year. Plus the roads are worse than I have ever seen them. I have at least 3 places now. That I will have to walk in and cut cable on trap. Because of mud. Truck almost gets stuck everywhere I go cause of bad roads. Texas. Cant come soon enough

I just finished a 10 day job in the Savannah River Swamp. I'll never do another in March.
Warm temps/sweating. Mosquitoes. Critter mating seasons over. Critters changing/reducing movements due to spring. Landowner wanted coons removed but deer feeders were empty. Free roaming domestic K9s.
At least it didn't rain hard until night #8.
Made for a miserable trapline. All I could do to catch 35 coons, 6 possums, and 4 coyotes.

Just now starting to see the coons getting active. No feeders whatsoever here, just using peanuts with the ants already active.

I'm just curious an you don't have to answer this if you don't want to but what's the first step in getting jobs like that when you don't live in that state how do you advertise? Like me a guy from Pennsylvania wanting to trap for a club/landowner in say Georgia? Keystonekiller, I have a friend that is a forestry/wildlife consultant that works for some very wealthy and large landowners. Most of my upstate predator control jobs are due to his contacts. Also, some of my beaver work is thru him with those type landowners. All of my local predator/beaver work near home is generated due to word of mouth from several decades of my work in southern Georgia and my contacts with a couple of local timber companies. I do not advertise my trapping business. Was going to advertise after I retired from my real job last June, but I'm currently getting all the work I want. A man's still gotta have time to bowhunt big bucks and call in a spring gobbler....and fish a little...lol

And all the years of a trusted game warden also helps (a good reputation) the birds should be talking your way It sure has...and the fact that there are no other trappers here that have adequate gear or the knowledge to cover these large properties nor do they have hairy enough kahoonas to wade off into these snake-infested beaver swamps...lol And the gobblers have been singing for over a month. Season don't open until April1st.

Looking forward to following another adventure
How the heck do you get a trap "stolen" on private ground? The list of suspects would surely be short
Some one saw it from road. It was = supposed to go into woods. It did not

Haha, some of us got “voluntold” we were going to start trapping a property and actually caught critters. Word of mouth spreads amongst landowners down here, especially when your turkey hunting buddy is the tax accessor. I know several “full time trappers” down here that I guess you’d call “professionals” and have as much work as they can handle. I get a lot of their scraps, lol. I can only hit so many properties during season working a full time job, but really make my money on coons/possums during the Spring/Summer months. I had a buddy call from the Southern part of the county and wanted to learn to trap. I showed him what I know and gave recommendations on what I use and he took the ball and ran with it. He also has a full time job and does it on the side. He recently picked up a fairly large parcel of land and is now getting paid. What some will find interesting is he called me first and asked if “I cared if he started trapping and making some money at it?” He then told me he’d have them call me and I could trap that place if I wanted since I got him started in it. That’s pretty cool in my book! We text about every morning when running our lines before work. What we have down here, that I guess a lot of folks in other parts of the country don’t have, are landowners that manage their properties for habitat and predators. They want quail, turkeys, and deer and they know that trapping works. If I didn’t have a full time job, there’s no doubt I could still have more than enough places to trap.
