I have the Maine Style coil springs setters from F&T. I have found that they don't work for most 1.5s which is does say 1.65s and above on the site but I figured it wouldn't matter. For you guys that run them, how did you make them work? I'm wanting to use them for muskrat floats during this spring season. Thanks in advance!

I use the ones Flemings sells and they work on all my coil spring traps. I have arthritis in my hands and they come in handy. But, I try to set my traps with my hands and use the setters only when needed. Setters have a tendency to slip off when they get wet or you don't have them pushed down straight, and they get a slight angle to them.

That's why I love 1.5 longsprings for rats. Easy to set on your thigh and heavy to cause a quick drown

You can weaken the springs with a torch easily. They do not need to be terribly strong for rats. I’m sure someone will chime in with a method of doing it. I have only read about it on here.

This. You should be able to do it. It's technique not strength. Set them over your knee, it's easiest for beginners. Bring a couple clean ones in the house set them over and over until you get it down. Unless you are physically disabled in some way.

X2 most people can do this but I notice the main problem is they are afraid of the trap and don’t want to get stung

My usual advice to those folks is to try swatting at it with their purse. smile

I would like to keep these for coons as well since we do have a bounty here and having more traps out usually helps catch more.
