Nearly every southern beaver caught the trapper was paid to catch it....so these prices for the pelts have made beaver a real money-making item. With what I charge and the pelt along with the castor/sacs/tails several beaver topped $150 each. Enjoy that situation as well. Up here, at least on the east side of South Dakota, maybe the whole state, there is no one going to pay someone to take out beavers. There are no timber companies worried about beavs plugging culverts and taking out their roads into the pine stands, no power companies worrying about water intakes to their cooling systems, etc. If there is beaver ADC work, its very local and little talk about it as far as I know. Our beavers are long the major rivers and streams, with some venturing up small, more ephemeral streams. If you've never seen a beaver dam made out of nothing but basically corn stalks and mud (ok, maybe a few little willow type sticks), it will make you smile. Beaver issues are the 2nd highest (last I knew) landowner call in after coyote but usually the state trappers take out those offenders. Some other SD guys may know or even do some beaver ADC work but again, its not the normal thing here as far as I know.

Nuisance beaver work is huge here. Not many are marketable unfortunately as the nuisance work is mostly in June July August and September. Some pelts are OK if taken in May or October.

Yep, you've mentioned that a number of times before but thanks for the update. Again, count your blessings within your specific geographical context. I'm sure that ADC work for you has paid some bills over time

How do you think a Canadian beaver caught in July will compare to a Southern US beaver caught in December? I wouldn't discard a May caught Canadian that grades a Sec3.....

Wonder how those southern Virginia guys feel that sold to Groenwald 2 weeks ago at $10 averages… but I’m sure the national price jumped overnight and there was no insight. Worked out good for groeny, timing is everything…

I was wondering the same thing. ADC beaver is hit n miss around my place. Our RM would rather pay a track hoe to come open stuff up……cuz the operator is also a councillor….FFS! An hour north of me it picks up though.

What is the current high demand that is driving these beaver prices? Shearable or hatter? Has hatter prices caught up to shearable?
In the South it has. My understanding is the show "Yellowstone" is increasing the demand for cowboy hats. Quality hats are made out of....hatter beaver :-)

A beaver caught in july here has no underfur and "fallen timbers" for guardhair. The fallen timbers is a dead giveaway that there is no underfur. The underfur supports the guardhair.

We used to market our nuisance beaver thru the fur council program that were caught between may 15 when season ends and end of May.Also between sept 15 and Oct 5(beginning of the season) Once in a while there would be a top lot beaver caught end of may.
