one time I was going down a creek on a kayak of similar size in January and when I came around a bend I saw a fish tail sticking out of the water then when I put my paddle in the water it scared the rest out and there had to be at least 10 cat fish about 10 inch in length it was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. this was during a unseasonably warm period in Michigan right after a very cold snow storm.

the harder the trail is the better the story

We call those pretty ones red throats. What do y'all call them. I get a kick out of local names for fish.
The ID books call them red-breast sunfish, but them book writers are mostly yanks I believe. smile
(No offence to y'all yanks, undue offence, anyway.)

I love some fried bream. My son gets tickled every time we go fishing in our neighbors pond. Most bream we pull out are near or bigger than hand sized.

Sharon those pumpkin seeds are vicious in an aquarium. Had em in a 60 gallon hex tank.

Wolf - Are there Asian Carp in those creeks? I used to love doing that but my creeks just don't fish like they used to. I have blamed the Asian Carp.

Stupid question but here goes. Do you guys have any of those really big snakes I keep seeing in the news? They say they are moving north from Florida. By the way like the pictures.

Ok, like those Oscars. I knew some folks who had those. They had to live alone. Killed all other fish. The big ones would hover against the glass, looking at me as if to dare me to dive in the tank with them grin

I used to catch very colourful wild sailfins and sword tails out of freshwater lake shores and combine them with my other fish groups. I really liked the wild ones.

My daughter keep sun fish for years. But one little sucker ate every other fish that was in the tank even if they were bigger than it. Eventually she made it the only fish in the tank and quit trying to add more local fish to it. It wouldn't jus kill them there would be no sign there was ever another fish in the tank it ate everything. Some how. I'm guessing it was a female.

Sharon I prefer the more peaceful fish like Australian rainbows, Boesemani and tetras. Chichlids are agressive and fin nippers.

Drifter, I loved having tetras. Zebra fish, guppies, many others.

The bigger the tanks, the more I liked them. I found, just like keeping horses , chooks, or anything else, the more room they have the better they tolerated each other. Along with plenty of plants and objects to hide in.

I even maintained salt water huge tanks for a company who rented them out to dentists, doctor's offices, big hotels, lounges, etc. That was fun.

But I always loved freshwater fish best.

Never had any small bream in tanks, it's just that anything that has bright shiny colours tempts me to try !

At one time I had7 tanks going. I have cut back on that habit though LOL I did salt water tanks for a bit but tired of the salt mess from the bio wheel.

I run an undergravel filter now with a powerhead. I used to help a guy that installed and maintained systems at doctor offices and other businesses. One customer had a 500 gallon tank at home. The glass tanks are the only way to go as the acrylic scratch making them cloudy. This is my favorite algae eater. Hard to find and usually expensive. Favorite

Interesting to hear you say that. There is a trout stream near my house. Some of the trout fishermen complained that the trout population was poor even though the fisheries division claimed they stocked the stream every year. I wrote an article in the local paper stating that the reason for the small amount of trout was due to a large population of otter that travel that stream.

A lady wrote a rebuttal to my article stating that it was a proven fact that otter only ate rough fish. She didn't offer any statistics to back up her claim.
