This area isn’t bad digging wise. But you don’t have to go far from it to find ground like your talking about 160.

What area of NW Ontario quite a bit of is littered with Blastomycosis so a good word of caution in any digging and exposed soil after
soil type is it clay over glacial till ?
frost depth is not an indication this year with the snow load and early drop
frost line is probably a good 6-7 feet most years so your piles have to be 4 feet pass that

Its pretty clay like soil I believe. Its my understanding that the 2" foam boarder negates the need for deep footings. I'm going to do some checking with some local guys when we go up early next month with a load of materials.

those clay soils will move around like a Brides nighty when the moisture changes around them
look at some of the posted geological mapping of your area
what area of NW Ont there are probably a dozen trappers on Tman here from there

Its about 18 miles north of Vermilion Bay ON. Vermilion Bay is on Trans Canada HWY between Kenora and Dryden.

There was a glacial lake in that area for about 2-3000 years so that is why the clay is around. When it washed out it created that area around Boco and when it hit the ocean it created a mini-ice age especially for Europe since the currents of the North Atlantic were interrupted

those soils are heavy with that disease, dogs pick it up first since they are so close to the ground

Hey Ken, how long ago did you bury the Tyvek and has it held up well? Your system is what we’re going to go with. Got a load of supplies hauled in last week and started clearing the site.

The Tyvek has 6-12" of fill over it. It is NSF material so it drains well. It is still in place with no reported problems. Installed it in 2007 I believe. As long as you can keep the sun off of it it will last a long time. UV is what destroys it
