You really ought to put a bubbler in that water feature so they can get the full spa treatment!

When we had chickens they were always fun and usually had one or two setting. The Roosters always became Original Recipe or extra crispy.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Nessy, they sure are sharp lookin' sheep! As far as chicken breeds go, we usually try to get a variety of our favorites. Right now, what we really miss is a couple of Ameraucanas. They are so gentle and lay the blue and green eggs. When we ordered this batch of chickens in spring of 2021, we had two Ameraucanas so we didn't order any of those. While these girls were still in a brood pen, the two Ameraucanas were killed by a coyote. I picked off the coyote, but that didn't save the two girls. Next time around, we'll get some more.
Thanks, Marty. Yep, they are as good as they can be. Dark, rich yolks and a whole different food than the ones at the grocery store.
Yours too, 330! I laugh when I think of the photos you posted with signs telling your girls where to lay eggs!
That's a nice setup, PF. I'll bet that new deep cycle will cost ever-so-slightly more than it did six years ago. Great for safety though.
Dahlgren, they sure are nice to have around for entertainment and eggs. How long since you had chickens?
Turtledale! I am hoping they don't have internet access out there and get even more ideas!
Randall, were you able to get decent meat from those roosters? The only chickens I ever butchered were a group of jumbo Cornish crosses I raised for meat. The small group we keep for eggs now have names and pet status, so nobody make it to the dinner plate.
Northof50, just thinking of your Manitoba handshake, the girls will pick a mosquito off of us when one lands. I started holding out an arm with a mosquito (hopefully before it bites) and the girls realized it was an instant snack. Now they see one and grab it. One down, a thousand to go!

I think what they need next is a foot washing station, Sharon. Especially now in spring, they go down below near the creek into the black muck and gorge themselves on bugs, worms and sprouts. They come back up to the house with pitch black muck on their little pink and yellow feet and then stand there around me like I'm going to let them sit on my lap!
They sure do, Billy.

Keystone, the buffs have always been great hens. We have the two now. They are Zim's favorites for sure.

I've never had a Blue Plymouth Rock, but they sure are nice looking birds. We have the one Barred you can see on the water feature with the two Buff Orpingtons. The other hen in the background is a Welsummer. She's shy but a sweetheart. The rest are lap chickens.

None. There were three of them in 2015 and all are three are long gone. They each found ways to eliminate themselves. They were "different."
Never bought chicks from that place again. All from Murray McMurray since and all are wonderful!

I’ll have to ask my son what he ordered for birds ...and report back.
All I know ....is that he gets the hearty ,short combed birds
