Well, we've heard a lot about the price of eggs lately, but ours top them all. In addition to buying the girls a new chicken radio for their coop, we had another expense we are trying to offset. Zim and I bought a "water feature" for in front of our house. It is a 3-tiered fountain with waterfalls and LED lights under the water. We wanted it for us, but it turns out that the girls have decided that it is their waterer. I keep the water clean and add oxine to hold down any bacterial growth. They love to hop onto the rocks and get a drink and they sure look good doing it. Then came winter. Yep, Zim and I went and bought a tank heater so the girls could come walking along in the snow and drink from THEIR water feature year-round. So now, in addition to the original $600 purchase price, we pay for the power to run the pump and LED lights, and the tank heater in cold weather. You gotta admit, they look good on there. Who knows what they'll demand next.

Don't let them see this, Law Dog!
(They just reminded me that the five of them produced five eggs today. They feel entitled to a high end watering station.)

Glad you enjoy it, HT!
That's what they said, Mac!
Moosey, that will be next. Just wait.
Gary, just let me know if you would like info for ordering them a new water feature.

Do you accept PayPal? How much is shipping to 17049?
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Probably an additional $50 per dozen, Nittany! They need good packaging.

I took 4 dozen to a friend a couple of weeks ago. As I was walking along on the dock, someone asked me if I wanted to buy a boat with all those eggs. Chickens exist to be spoiled and pampered .... Ask my missus. I buy 5 grain scratch feed for them and then we let it ferment for 3 days covered with spring water. They love it, its easier for them to digest and has more good stuff in it than just plain dry grains. Out of our 13 hens we get 10 to 12 eggs every day since we started doing that. Even during the winter it was 6 to 8 eggs without artificial light.

That's interesting, Scuba. I've read about doing that with layer feed as well, but don't know anyone who has tried it. I'll see if the girls have read anything about it.
Nessy, that is one spiffy looking sheep. How many do you have and which variety?

Our hens free range and scratch and hunt all day. They eat very little of their layer pellets but do like scratch.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Ours free range most of the day too, Gary. They still seem to pound down a good amount of their layer pellets when they're inside...unless they're selling them for a little extra pocket change. Hard to tell.
