DWC, sorry about your situation.
Yeah, there's a lot of evil sickness out there. Its hard to guard against it, day cares struggle between rock and hard places (hard to pay higher wages and finding ood people to trust as workers) just like nursing homes do. I also saw it with my 30 years, on and off with the Scouts. Sign of the times. I hope you find a good place for your kids.

2 working parents is not good for raising children. Jmo. Thats why grandma is in play and now a church preschool. The daycare was solely for the social aspect because he hadnt really been around other kids. This also was a preschool. We couldnt make it on just one of our salaries as things are. But if grandma wasnt available, id downgrade houses and lifestyle to make it work for one of us to stay home. Unfortunately a lot of parents dont think this way.

2 working parents is not good for raising children. Jmo.[/ [quote=DWC]Jobs all over the place paying 20+ an hour. What possesses a male to want to be an assistant at a daycare for probably 12-13 bucks an hour? Seems obvious to me. Locally, 2 men have been charged with raping kids recently. One worked at four daycares before it was finally noticed on a camera by a parent during naptime. I just yanked my kid out of his daycare because ANOTHER guy showed up while my wife was watching the camera from work. 2nd they hired in a couple months. New employee, no notification by the daycare. Both times. Just all of the sudden, there they were. A quick google search after I had to raise my voice to the director to give me the guys last name, which initially she refused to provide, showed arrests for drugs, burglary, pursuit, and domestic assault for the latest d-bag. She assured me they did a “thorough” background check. Kid seems confused and sad, doing my best to explain to him why he had to leave. Do NOT trust your daycare center gives two craps about your children. Just like many business’ operating on profit. They hire under low margins, operate under low margins, and depend on no flack coming back. We had a big local provider of daycare of infants through elementary children fold due to SA charges against staff.

You made the absolute right decision DWC, that being said it is worth something to mention that there are plenty of daycares ran by older couples as a way to give back to the community and (at least in Minnesota) there are plenty of examples like that. Seems a little unfair the discount the fact that there are plenty of good men in this world (or so I hope) and the same thing that would push a man to become a nurse, doctor, or teacher could inspire one to want to help kids in their formative years. However, thorough background checks on daycare workers kinda seems like a no brainer for those employing them… August

Sorry for your situation. There are churches around me that offer day care. Costs the same but hopefully a better environment. Not sure why you would assume a church day care would be a better environment………. Men aren’t the only pedophiles………… It would be great if all Moms could be stay at home moms but I don’t see that happening in the United States.

A background check for these places consists if a paid online search for CONVICTIONS. Thats a far cry from what theyve been investigated or even charged for. Google is your friend. And see that’s messed up, if I have to get an FBI background check to exercise my constitutional right you should probably need one to get paid to watch and foster the next generation. August

When I was a kid we only had one car. One land line, One antenna driven TV. Cell phones, internet cable were not invented. Moms stayed home. We rode bikes with out helmets, hunted fished trapped played "army" and had bb gun wars. Got burned with fireworks, went camping with smuggled whiskey and all survived. Ran all over the country both on foot and bikes. Rode calves at a dairy (till we got caught) and learned how to think from all of it. Studied the revolutionary war in grade school and the constitution in high school civics. You either passed or you didnt. In little league baseball you won or you didn't.
Two parents working just to buy more stuff is a bad idea.

Hey Bernie, after seeing the responses to this thread maybe only Minnesota (specifically St. Louis county 😉) has trustworthy people working in daycare’s… I’d have to agree about the economics of raising a family on one income tend to be hard to make work in this day and age, especially for those who live closer to urban centers with the higher cost of livin’, but that ain’t nothin like the cost of livin’ high. Here’s hoping someone gets that reference. August

Homeschooled too. Was a LOT of sacrifice and work, but I think it was worth it. It IS doable, but you REALLY have to want to do it. LOL, wife and I are getting ready to take our first extended " just us" vacation since 1995.
