They say not to pen raise them and to switch them out with banny chicks and let that mother raise them.

There's a dandy quail post on here somewhere where the guy showed the boxes he raises them in and told all about them.

That interesting, as chickens hatched out quail eggs , the quail got just so big and all of them just died , fell over.
Did a search , and found chickens carry a disease that kills quail , but doesn't hurt the chickens.

Maybe it's just a necessity to replace x number every year, same as keeping bees. I love quail and pheasants but Nebraska has lost them same as everyone else. Oddly enough, the only place I see pheasants anymore is in the Sandhills around ranch shelterbelts.

Habitat is key to quail survival and population increases. They need to have old field growth. Weedy, fallow fields, early successional plant communities with lots of open bare ground and shrub thickets for protection from easy predation.

The only quail down here that I've seen/heard are in impenetrable blackberry thickets.
