I put my flat bed trailer on Craigslist and the place has become a scammers nest I think. All but one of the calls and txt messages I got thus far in the last 24 hours since putting the add on there have been people that tried to pull a fast one. I think I'll pull the add tomorrow and just trade it in at a dealer when I get a dump trailer. I may get less for it that way but this is just an exercise in frustration. i put it on there for a very competitive price and someone could have gotten a good deal. But my tolerance for this kind of BS is at a low point right now. I quit facebook a while back or I would have put it on market place there but it may be the same thing right now. maybe a sign of the times. But the ratio of scammers versus real people is just through the roof IMHO. Do you experience similar things at the moment ??

I don't give them my phone number on the ad. Their only option to contact me is through e-mail. That slows it down quite a bit.

I put a snowmobile on there a month or so ago. Wrong time of year to sell, no one is looking for a snowmobile right now, back in January there were lots of snowmachines on there and they were going like hotcakes. Right now I put one on there and got a bunch of scam texts and a few scam emails in the first day or two (no calls). After that absolutely nothing, no more scams, no calls either but that is mainly due to it being the wrong time of year. Renewed it a week or so ago and not a single scam text or email on the renewal.

So maybe leave it a day or two and see if the scams stop. If they quit in a day or two then you'll only have to deal with people who might be interested in it.

Most of C-List scammers hit you in the first few hours after listing. Most likely computerized return messages. I always like to play with scammers. Get them to waste their time sending me pictures.

If available, you might try one of the local sale papers that typically come out weekly in rural areas. Unlike Craig's List, they are only distributed locally so are limited to folks within a reasonable travel distance for someone interested.

I agree. I don't go on Facebook, but my wife does. I won a portable hunting blind in a raffle. I have no need for it. My wife put it on Marketplace. It sold the first hour I put it on there.
She put it on Marketplace on Monday. I got a text about 15 minutes later from a guy who said he wanted it, but would be out of town until Friday and would pick it up then. I said if it was still available that was fine. But, I would sell it if someone else wanted it before then.

Got a gift from my brother. It was 3 AA batteries with a note that said, Gift Not Included.

Nice trailer I will give you $550.00 cash today if you can tow it to WI.. LMAO

Took me six months to sell a boat I listed on FB marketplace.. Seem like the scammers are the first to message on certain items. Almost Always with a cash offer little higher than you asking. Then go to the can you hold it line. Also has more the a couple coming to look then no show. Lots of low ballers too.
I haven't used craiglist in couple years now. My brother did manage to successfully sell a car last month on craigslist. But had to spend first day dealing with wadding threw scammers.

Good luck

Mac

I listed a motorcycle on CL and got a ton of scammers and low ballers the first week. Got tired of it and pulled it. Friend has FB and suggested I list it there so I had them list it and added a few thousand to the price. Sold it a few days later for my asking price plus an additional $500 to deliver it a few hours away. He sent the $$ before I would deliver it and had the delivery fee for me in cash when I got there.
Sold a few things on CL over the years but always take precautions and it's first one with the cash gets it.

I stopped using CL a long time ago for that very reason. My dad still finds good deals on there from time to time.

just put an attachment for a tractor on there.
Hopefully it goes as good as they have in the past.

If you are trying to get top dollar Craigslist is not the place to be.
Price it with as my Mom used to say "a go away price" and you'll be OK.

I don't take emails or texts, you have to make a phone call and talk to me.
That seems to knock out 3/4 of the issues.

I’ve noticed an uptick in scammers over the last couple of months emails to update passwords, fake bank fraud protection callers the same profile on Facebook running different sales scams. Big increase in charitable requests also give to one and they sell your name a 100 times or more so you get calls and mail for the next few years.

My guess is the free money is running out and the lowlifes are getting back to “Work” now.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

My all time best scammer was one that I had a warrant and a deputy was going to be sent to arrest me if I didn't pay them a fee. I told them I found that hard to believe and they assured me in their best accent that is was happening right now. I said I think that is funny because I am literally sitting across the table from the Sheriff eating lunch (which I actually was). Some stammering and a click

Good for you..

.. FB isn't all evil. It is definitely easier to avoid scammers on FB I think. At least at present time seems so.
