Has any one on here had those shots that are supposed to ease pain? If so how long do they last and can you go back to your normal life style?

Your insurance company will usually make you do 6 or more weeks of physical therapy before injecting your knee with cortisone or the hyaluronic acid gel. In my experience, from a few months ago, the therapy helps greatly with stabilization and mobility of the knee, but doesn't help with the pain. The cortisone, after the 6 weeks of therapy, made my knee painless in a day. It seems to be wearing off some.

I've had several cortisone shots. 1st one worked for a couple months. Last one lasted a week. I also tried the 3 shot series of chicken comb. It worked for less than a month. Also did physical therapy which made the pain worse. Finally had a total knee replacement 3 weeks ago. Feels better already. Hopefully be pain free in a month.

I had a series of three shoots, two weeks apart. It worked for two years. Tried again but did not work the second time. Total knee replacement.

why only do a temporary solution when you can also do the correct exercises to fix it in a more permanent manner?

most knee pain is caused by hip/pelvis and/or ankle mobility/strength issues and being obese....

I have a bone on bone knee due to most of the cartilage removed after an injury when I was much younger. The remaining cartilage just wore out and I have varying amounts of pain every day but so far it is mostly tolerable. But occasionally, I will tweak it somehow and get swelling and increased pain. When that happens, I go get a cortisone shot and it makes a big difference quick. I have also tried getting the shot as more of a preventive measure before I know I am going to be putting more stress on the knee. I could not tell that the preventive did anything.

I figure a knee replacement will be necessary at some point if I live long enough. In the meantime, I do my best to stay active and do the things I enjoy and manage the every day aches and pains.

If your having pain due to inflammation it might be a good idea to try 15mg of meloxicam for a few days....talk to a dr first. It will be apparent that the drug helps or does not help within 48 hours.

no matter what thou, drop to a good bodyweight and exercise...

Left knee bone on bone, Dr. said the shot will last 2 weeks to 6 months. It lasted 2 weeks 3 days, then the pain was as bad or worse than before the shot. I've now had both knees replaced and life is much better without knee pain.

Wife gets cortisone and it lasts for several months to up to a year. She says it depends on the person doing the shot and getting it in the correct place in her knee.

Not a knee but I get the shots in my shoulder joints about every 9 months. Helps greatly. Also you should try some Voltaren ointment. Works really well and is available either by prescription or over the counter.

Thank you all for your responses. Will be72 this year still work and go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. Really watch my weight because I have diabetes. Have had this happen off and on sense back surgery 20 or so years ago trying to avoid surgery. So I think I will try what White spoke of. Again thank you all.

I've done 2 rounds of the gel shots, each a different formula for my knees, they didn't help more then a week or so, Not overweight, arthritis has my joints eaten up. Once you're bone on bone you pretty much need a replacement.
I'm 7 weeks out from bilateral knee replacements and about to get back to work, Won't be completely healed for several months but I'm already way ahead of where I was 2 months ago.

I think Meloxicam is a wonder drug. I end up with severe foot and ankle pain about once a year from an old injury. A week of Meloxicam usually is all I need.

Not knees, but anyone had a shot in their hip?
Forgetting my age back during February I went to jump up on a moving vehicle. Well, it stopped and something felt like it popped in my hip. After two months the pain has gotten so bad I couldn’t sleep at night. I went to the Doc and he gave me a quick shot in the butt cheek that helped for two days. I mean it felt like I could run a marathon. He scheduled me for a shot in the joint but insurance denied it, but said if he’d do a peer review they’d approve it. This Doc had too much pride and wouldn’t do it. Now I have an appointment with a hip specialist. Hoping he has another suggestion or my insurance doesn’t deny it if he too thinks I need a shot. I’ve seen videos of the needle that looks like it a foot long and I don’t even care.
With pain meds I can walk without pain to an extent, but still can’t sleep at night or sit or stand for long periods. I have a trip planned in two weeks that will require quite a bit of exertion. And on top of that a cross country flight. I’m hoping something can be done prior to them. If not I’ll hunt two days and rest a day. According to the last Doc I can’t make it any worse, just depends on how much pain I can endure as to my trip being a success or failure.

Right knee went bone on bone three years ago. Had two shots, first helped three days, the second had no effect.
Had knee replaced but not all went perfect. Several problems that are finally fadeing away. Never know until you try.
