What they call the chow hall now days, don't ask me why but that's what they had up call it since I got in.

Just remember that on board there are no ropes. You will find lines, yards and sheets ...but never a rope. There that should clear things up a bit for ya

Well a line is a line unless its a sheet or a yard on board

All "lines" are lines. The only "rope" on a vessel is a bucket rope.

And thick towing / securing lines are called "hawser" lines. Not "hauser" spoken like "howser" :-)
