After a previous thread about private land and not being able to access public land I did a little research.
There are over 90K easements on paper for BLM and Forestry lands. Only issue is they aren’t marked or digitalized. They are now working on providing that on maps. So what appears as “landlocked” public land isn’t actually landlocked “if” you know where the easements are.
OnX is working on remedying those access locations.

Don't assume that the easements are where the BLM says they are on the map. I was dealing with BLM over an easement that they said was there but was actually about a quarter mile away. They told me that some of the employees had just drawn the easement on the map without actually verifying it first and that this was a common issue. I had asked if it could be fixed and basicly what he said was that there was so much red tape etc. to move the easement that it would most likely never get done. To this day the easement is still wrong on the map.

Most large acreage private industrial timberlands in NY have conservation easements on them owned by the state or some land trust. It is a way for investors to squeeze all the value they can out of the property on top of the timber. But beware, not all public easements are the same, most are complicated giving the public limited pedestrian and motor vehicle Access and rights. You need to read the fine print on every easement property.

It’s my understanding this is mainly the checkerboard private/public land out in the western states.

Wanna Be ..... Not all are private - public. Bought ground in NY in 2016. Added a piece in 2021 that was 200 yards away. Found an easement from 1961 from the 2021 property to the 2016 purchase across what everyone agrees is a lake end SWAMP. Except in 2014 that swamp was identified as "property" and sold to a private individual. I can not go from here to there even though there is a titled easement. I need to go to court to establish those rights. Here in the eastern US states....... New York. And I am 60 miles from the sacred ADIRONDACK "preserve"

Prioritize Full Implementation of the MAPLand Act.
On April 29, 2022, the Modernizing Access to our Public Land Act (MAPLand Act) was signed into law, directing federal land management agencies to consolidate, digitize, and make publicly available recreational access information as geospatial files. This includes access easements across private lands, as well as detailed road and trail information on public lands. The MAPLand Act will increase the power of GPS mapping apps commonly found on smartphones, but this information must be implemented before public users will benefit. American hunters and anglers are urging federal lawmakers to appropriate $13.5 million toward MAPLand Act implementation in Fiscal Year 2024, and land management agencies must prioritize the law’s implementation by 2026.

Good to know, this will upset some though. Especially ones that have easements but did not want them public knowledge.

Alot of what we have here in our area is what the BLM told me are "work easements " meaning the blm can go through the private but not the public. There are thousands of acres land locked around here

I always figured I was missing a piece of the puzzle in this debate.I always thought "public land" meant just that,for the public.Yet I've seen numerous instances where Access is blocked and the only people using it are the adjoining land owners.

Suing over airspace and now the property value has diminished because of such airspace disturbance…that almost falls in line with all the other stupidity going on in the world today. Also shows there’s some sho’nuff greedy folks in the world today.

So because the law allows access to this public land the private ground is worth less because it doesn't restrict access to said public ground? And it's the hunters fault? What an over reach. I can believe the ranch is worth less because it doesn't restrict access to the public ground but it's the law that is giving access not the hunters.

I hope you guys all get to access that inaccessible public land . Unfortunately, it will then be like all the other accessible public land.
