I will retire in May of 2024, My wife will be 65 and can then get Medicare.
How do you young guy retire so early? I work for insurance or I would have retired earlier.
I checked on insurance for my wife and I and its right at 1400.00 a month or the two of us. Its basically the same insurance as I have right now. I'll be out this Nov 30 I will be 3 months short of 60 needed to be 59 and 1/2 to draw money without penalty as far as insurance I keep my medical ,dental and vision for 175 dollars a month that's a teamster deal in contract 10 years ago medical was free till 65 .

My plan was at 57 one month and day past my birthday. That would be July 1, 2036. BUT my 30 and out is questionable and tied up in court since we were sold. They agreed to keep out benefits the Sam and in place and accepted 4x the cash they paid for our plant in out retirement $ but then decided to change that.
I may change jobs before then if they rule against us. I will never retire just transition into my hobbies full time. It looks like I'm going to get to keep my 30 and out at least for the next 4 years of this new contract. 2036 and retirement at 57 here I come. Well if I live that long anyway.

I am going to work in about 15 minutes. Wife aint real happy, kids aint real happy about it, my 85 year old mom is real unhappy, but I get bored after a few months. I dont work in the winter. Havn't in a long time unless you call trapping work. I don't want to. Its why I turn down most damage requests for money. I will trade beaver control say, for fur trapping permission but when you take a trapping job its to please to the person hiring you. When I trap I only have to please myself. Come Nov I will be ready to stop working for money. If the spoonbill are running, or I decide to go to LUSK come Aug I dont get permission. i just do it. Its nice to be able to work when I want to and stay home when I want to. had to spend a grand the other day on A/C, 650 bucks on a windshield for my jeep, and just found out my moms handicap van needs 6 grand of work done to it. Its also nice to know none of those costs have to come out of savings. So i guess i will work summers till i can't pass a D.O.T. physical anymore

I’ve been self-employed since 1996. I run two small businesses and I really enjoy it. I just turned 65 and I have no plans to retire. And I am still healthy and physically fit and as long as I am able I will continue to do residential building and remodeling. I have a handful of employees and great subcontractors who can take care of everything for me but I like to get on the jobs and put in a good day‘s work myself when I can.
In 20 months I will start collecting my full Social Security benefits.
Right now I can leave for camp whenever I want, I can hunt, fish, trap whenever I want. My businesses are capable of pretty much running themselves with very little oversight from me. I just have to keep up on the paperwork for the most part.
The money is really good.
Why would I retire?
Eh...wot?

had an uncle that worked in a shop that specialized in fixing vets. The stories he told about your "typical vet owner" would make you laugh for hours, unless of course your a vet owner.
