5 weeks after filing a claim for my roof with Allstate (wind damage), putting up with inspectors that never showed up and fixing things myself until I can get a new roof. I get a call from some joker from Allstate tonight. Now, they want me to get a contractor out here to do a repair estimate for 11 shingles?!?!!!??? mad I have had water coming in from the roof in the attic, upstairs bath and closet. I have fixed it temporarily, but I need a roof. Luckily, I have already planned on getting one and paying for it myself. I have a guy hired. However, I have paid this fraud of an insurance company thousands over the years. They want to replace 11 shingles and want me to drag a contractor out here to give me an estimate for that? It's pretty much an insult! I'll be dumping them ASAP and switching to Erie. Just a warning,, stay away from Allstate, they are shysters.

I recently switched insurance companies after 30 years. I went with State Farm as the new company. It wasn't but a few months after, we had a STRONG storm that ripped the roofing off all 3 of my buildings. I was sick over it and I KNEW I was about to get hosed. I "patched" things up so they wouldn't leak in the short term and an adjustor finally showed up from out of state. He was VERY nice to deal with and his estimate was substantially more than the quotes I was given to repair it all. I agreed and had the check in hand in about a week. This is NOT a plug for State Farm but a rare, positive experience with an insurance company.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Heck we can't get contractors to sho up to fix 1/3 of the barn roof and about the same on dad's roof. No way someone will shoe to gibmve an estimate for a job that small.

That reminds me of when Heatmaster wanted me to hire a welder to come out and fix my boiler under warranty for a price they accept. Lol I would be lucky to get someone out the first time let alone to give an estimate then come back and do the job.
. They ended up swapping out my unit.

Insurance is the greatest scam ever created. You can't go without it, and they will screw you (or at least try) when you need it.

Pennsylvania has got to have a dept of insurance contact them and turn them in then contact your attorney general consumer fraud and file a complaint and also call Allstate and find out why they sold you a fraudulent insurance policy take’s a little time but they will jump. I’ve had State Farms almost forever and never a problem did the other stuff to Farmer’s years ago

Actually, I've roughly added it up. A conservative estimate that I have paid them over the last 12 years of owning this home (never had a claim) is $35,000. A new roof estimate is $15,000 and I was not even asking for that. I just wanted a few grand to help me out and I would pay the rest since I'm upgrading anyway. I wasn't being greedy, just being fair.

Allstate is the ONLY insurance co....I don’t accept at my shop for collision repair. They suck from past claims...iam done with them.

Take my suggestions they will buckle but follow through even if they settle because beaurocrats have nothing to do but write letters and they have to answer and make them pay for all minus deductible as per your policy don’t give them a break

I handle storm claims and meet adjusters at least 4 times per week. You may request a second opinion. Allstate is notorious for “patching” BUT there is no code-compliant way to patch in 11 shingles. Your underlayment gets compromised. Your roof must be fixed to pre-storm condition. They must replaced at least the rear or front slopes affected by the storm.

PM me with the pix and your location. If I was close I would certainly be there for your second opinion inspection. I’m working the large hail storm in the Rising Sun, MD area now and it’s amazing how much damage insurance companies miss. I make them slow down and conduct a thorough inspection, then they STILL leave out components. My customers have no idea how much their insurance companies will try and get away with until I assist them. USAA is the best insurance company to have. I’m in SE PA

I also switched to State Farm and saved $$$$. The company I had wouldn't insure me in Arkansas. Nationwide.

I may have miss understood, I’m a couple in. But did you mean you needed a new roof b4 the wind damage? If so, that might be the problem. They won’t replace a worn out roof with a new one. That said, I hate insurance companies, not just one or two, but all of them. I’ve delt with them for over 30 years and had a dad and couple brothers that were agents and ended up hating the company’s as well. Necessary evil unfortunately

The reason insurance was invented is because it's a very profitable venture.
Kinda like a casino, they aren't in bidness to let you win.

This!

On the down low, anyone can PM me for a list of companies that I get the most appraisal work from. These are the worst of the worst meaning they talked you into buying their policy to save a few hundred and now they want to place a series of hoops for you to jump through or they will NOT pay your claim costing you thousands in the end.

For those that don't know- appraisal is a method legal recourse for a policy holder who has been unfairly denied. I am an independent so I will work for or opposite of any company but there are 4 [huge] companies that I am fighting against 95% of the time.

Oh and to Finster, I refuse to work a claim for Allstate either- they are the worst I know about so far.

Thought we were in good hands with State Farm, Last big snow in March, Snow came off the roof & collapsed our 12 x 24 deck, Adjuster said he would not show up until snow was gone, Ok. So we wait two weeks until you could see around the deck. He spent about fifteen minuets, Said it was wood rot that caused the collapse and policy would not cover that and he would send in the info. to the claims dept. So now I have the cost of removing the old deck and the replacement of the 12 x 24 deck. The repair to the house where the deck was attached, Rim boards, would be on me. Turns out when I hired a contractor to do the removal & replacement, He had taken out some of the rim board and mice had gotten in through the rot & chewed all the insulation & sheathing on the outside wall, Took pictures & send to State Farm claims, They call me an hour later, We do not cover rodent damage. So now it turns out to be 24 feet of insulation, sheathing and siding. More out of pocket. I finally get the adjusters payout for removal & replacement of deck, It's not enough to replace the 12 x 24 size deck. I'm tired of fighting with them at this point.
