This may indeed start to affect the rat market-just saying.

There is no market demand for 3 million beaver pelts probably at any price.

In the 80's when we had a viable wild fur market the hatter had to buy the third section beaver goods for good money because we had a strong market for shear-able winter beaver.

Today we barely have any demand for garments so the hatter trade buys just about everything under the top grades.

With the success of the Yellowstone series and the demand for Fedora hats in other markets we have a market for hatters.

Just about the only thing in demand at the moment.

Trappers are always a year behind the market, it will be interesting to see if it has any real depth when a 100,000 beaver show up next season on the first sale.

I will be very interested to see how many beaver make the last receiving date for sale #1. If I was a betting man I would guess less than 100,000 because I'm pretty sure that would be the highest amount of beaver ever on one sale for FHA and I just don't/won't believe it 'til I see it.

If the next sale in May holds the line on beaver prices, a 100,000 is easily doable if they hold to the approximate sale dates that they have been using. Being the only auction house left.

April is autism awareness month. Nearly 1 in every 100 children are born with an autism spectrum disorder.. 1 in 100. Stop and think about it...please

The top beaver sold for roughly the same price as the damaged section III beaver other than the 49 beaver in the top lot and some black beaver.

At the April GFW stop, some of the beaver looked like they had been in the freezer for a long time!

That number is likely very low imo.

Let me ask a question. I got a friend who just bought some land with beavers on it. He wants me to take them out but I'm wondering if I should wait until winter or does it matter? I'm in Virginia and it's warm here.

Ask if you can wait until next winter. At some point the felt market will become more discerning on what they'll pay for flat beaver.

I could only guess but with prices low the previous years they are piled up near the roads. Weather has been tough but I'm guessing and again guessing it will be double your estimate.

One recent post said there were 30 dead beaver on the road-nobody picked them up-Obviously the price aint high enough yet.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I have not read any of the thread but will state that sure it will lose steam, every market or species has gone through these cycles since recorded history and I don't see that ending anytime soon.
The good news is with $25 pelt averages and $15-$20 for castor there won't need to be near as many land owners having to call beaver trappers and pay $100-$300 to have them removed. Funny how those things work.

Bryce
