Tick bites are nothing to fool with. There are other diseases spread by them that are even worse than Lymes. A couple of years ago I got a disease called anaplasmosis from a tick bite. It almost killed me and put me in the hospital. The antibiotic used to treat tick bites is doxycycline..To prevent getting bit clothing should be sprayed with permetherine. (not on your skin).. If you do get a bite don't fool around, see a doctor, believe me, I've been there. I'd be going to the doctor daily if I went every time I got bit!

I have chaps sprayed with Permethrin and gators impregnated with permethrin. Works well to keep the ticks away. I did a hike in Montana and pulled 26 ticks off myself. The following Saturday, I did the same hike and wore the treated tick gaiters from Outdoor Research. I didn’t pull a single tick. That made me believe they are worth wearing. My wife sent a tick out recently to get it tested. If you get bit a lot, it would be too costly. They will test for Lymes for about $50.00. Nice to know. They test for about everything a tick can carry, and that runs $200.00. She put it in a zip lock and mailed it to Massachusetts. They told her everything you’d want to know about the tick and that it tested negative for diseases.

Pulled about 50 off the other day when parting out a truck at one point I pulled 6 off of my pants while one was on the back of my neck. Was in MO last week ticks of all sized there some looked like walking freckles they were so tiny.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

But the good news is the Dr would have saved me each time. I'm hoping I've built up some kind of immunity by now.

I spent a week in hospital last august from a tick bite. My liver was shutting down, ran a high fever for about 4 days. Didn’t want to eat, didn’t want to drink, just sleep. Had about 4 or 5 IVs going, couple each arm. Don’t mess around with them.
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

… guess we’re just lucky or immune around here … every now and then you’ll get one that’s long winded healing wise but just another inconvenience for the most part
Insert profound nonsense here

Same here, but I often feel them before they dig in. When the do dig in often they take a long time to heal and ich well past the few days they should. Some take months and leave a scar

Sometimes I am able to brush off the tick from my skin, but if it has started to attach or is attached no matter what i do i seem to have a longterm off & on itchy welt at the site like a mosquito bite. My current one has been bothering me for two months, and years ago i had a bite under my belt line that lasted over a year. I figure i am more allergic than most to these bites. Anyone have any advice? This helps I have a long term reaction to the sunk in heads with bumps lasting for many months. I'm the same way. I got bit by three up at Turkey Camp last week because I was out of Sawyer's Permethrin. I drove an hour to get some, treated my hunting clothes and that stopped the little buggers the rest of the week The bites are still itchy and red.
Eh...wot?

I had one wood lot I did TSI for the owner and it looked like someone took a pepper shaker to your pants when you left the woods. Bow hunting only area loaded w/deer.
