First film shown in the White House. Highly praised by Woodrow Wilson, a progressive demoncrat.

Liberals don't llike it anymore. They blame the movie for the rise of the KKK, for accurately depicting, well documented atrocities committed by African Americans during and after the Civil War. Segregation and the Jim Crow laws were in response to the atrocities committed by many blacks. Unfairly, Segregation and the Jim Crow laws were enforced against decent black folk too. It was easier and safer to discriminate against all blacks than to just go after the many bad ones, as they should of rightly done.

Yes.LOL. A part of the Democrats history they don't like to talk about. And don't want your common CNN and MSNBC watcher to know about. This is the movie that brought on a resurgence of the good old KKK in the 20s. Margret Sanger is tied in with that movement too.

Good old movie. I wish every jelly- headed, woke, panty wearing liberal was tied to a chair and made to watch this.

If whipping up anti-black sentiment with innuendo, stereotyping and outright falsehoods is your idea of a good thing then this is the movie for you. In the 1920's American blacks sure didn't need much help to get white people in a tizzy. At the time Oregon still had a slough of anti-black laws on the books and I'm sure other states did as well.

Watching it in bits and pieces myself. I've made it to the eve of Bull Run.

The anti woke history is what is interesting to me. I enjoy seeing what the perceptions of past generations were.

Carl, have you watched it? It shows the bad black people behaving better than they did in tens of thousands of real videos from the last few years, when they did literally billions of dollars in damage to our country. The movie is historically accurate, except that it actually toned down most of the worse behavior. It shows very decent black people too.

When I was an undergrad, one of the history classes I took used all primary source accounts. Things were truly terrible in the South during the years following the Civil War.

The movie is 108 years old and was still made more politically correct in it's portrayals. For instance the 2 villains both want to "marry" their victims.

Wilson was a racist, the film is garbage, 108 years ago and now. What Carl said is true.

Keith, I have not seen the film and don't ever intend to. I know enough about its content from reading reviews to know it's not my type of flick. A movie that single-handedly brought back the KKK to prominence when it had just about run its course tells me all I need to know. (The movie was originally titled "The Clansman").

On a positive note though, it did help organize black support of the nascent NAACP which tried to get the movie banned. Unsuccessfully.

What is "anti woke history"? You made that up.

In 1992, the Library of Congress deemed "Birth of a Nation" "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.

You don't have to agree with any message the movie has to watch it. I watch lots of TV shows, movies and news programs, that I disagree with. That's definitely the case with BBC America and the PBS News Hour for me. It's good to experience different viewpoints and ways of looking at the world. It's interesting to see what a different period of time was like, even if somewhat fictionalized.

Exactly , the point of history , that is being destroyed today.
Those that go to a job , for 8 hours a day then spend their lives depending on others for their meals and housing , ( even thought they pay for it )have no idea what it's like in the real dog eat dog real world.
Most have never cooked for themselves or even did their own laundry .

Most folks don't spend their days focused on the past when they are young and trying to provide for their families.
I truly enjoy history but have zero expectations that the history of the last 100 years will repeat itself. Times are always changing. Keep up or go stagnant. Doesn't mean you can't appreciate the past just don't count on it returning.

Have made it to Reconstruction. Seems like Barrack O. may have modeled his leadership after the character Sylas.

That was a long one to watch but thanks for the share Keith. The film shows the democrat party hasn't changed it's tactics but just changed the players. Instead of KKK it's now BLM.
