Just back from the Armadillo 500 down in Missouri unbelievable the amount of road killed grease balls with their little feet sticking up in the air like in a cartoon. I wonder how much that has to do with the drop in Turkey numbers it was just thick with them. Mostly south of I-70 outnumbering everything else.
We did see coons in the mornings when we hunted turkeys earlier so still a lot of coons running around.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

As far as I know, (disclaimer) all armadillos eat are grubs. If anyone knows different, please educate me. And they're protected, unless one is coming for you I guess. Missouri Conservation says unless they specifically say an animal can be taken, it is protected. Armadillo, copperheads, cottonmouth, we can't legally kill them. We got lots of them here is SW MO and I see them all the time. Turks are down here too. I blame it on predators. Coons, possums and skunks. And coyotes of course. I need to start trapping again.

Georgia takes the opposite approach. They list all native species by law and if it ain't on that list then no law applies. Starlings, pigeons, house sparrows, armadillos are fair game. Feral swine only have rules on transport, nothing moves alive without USDA permit which you won't get, and method of take in regards to related hunting method or season.

Armadillos are mostly turkey nest disturbers......not nest predators. Their presence in turkey habitat is not much of a limiting factor.
Here in Georgia, they are not protected by law. Also, hundreds of thousands are killed daily on our highways by vehicle tires.
And those rascals sound just like a deer walking thru the late afternoon autumn woods. Have caused me to clip the release on the bowstring or push the safety off the rifle a many a time....

Some years back I trapped in MO a bit. Possum numbers were VERY high. Turkey population here is declining with a growth in coon populations. I know bounty is not popular but I would like to see one on coon skunks and possums with no closed season. It will only take about 15 minutes to change back if population decline merits it. here is what wiki says about armadillos The diets of different armadillo species vary, but consist mainly of insects, grubs, and other invertebrates. Some species, however, feed almost entirely on ants and termite

You can walk right up to them and kick them and they will just grunt and either run off or roll up in a ball like a sow bug. I grew up around armadillos, chased em, shot em, ran over em, just harassed them in every way I could think of basically my entire life. Never did I ever see one roll up in a ball. Has anyone else seen one roll up in a ball?

Never seen one roll up in a ball. But I've seen em jump straight up about 2 feet high and hit the ground running in 4x4 high range. Also found out it is IMPOSSIBLE to pull one out of a burrow by the tail. His tail will pull off before his feet slide backwards.
