Yup, that's what I cut my cable. After a loop and crimp each end, I run a loop on my lock so I get a double ferrule rather than just a stop, it comes out to about a 10"-11" diameter snare.

Oops, 3'-39" of cable for the loop makes it about a 12" diam. loop. Better luck with that than a 9" diam. loop as some folks use. Guess I am just clumsy when I set mine BUT ------- I sure catch a variety of other animals on slides with this size loop. So if fur prices are up (Ya right), I don't pass any critters up on purpose. Barrel swivels are the best device but I want a quick switch out w/o a lot of expense, (yes I have tried split rings - they failed, quick links - cost too much and need pliers to open, and S - hooks - enough on them), so I use a loop on the extension around a #9 wire swivel on some of mine. Did I mention I am LAZY when it comes to gear. Simple, quick, and HD is what this old man has sunk to............................................... The mike

P.S. Here is a spot that you can set a snare just out of the camera angle to the left that I trapped last winter that would be good for any coyote, fox, or coon if a beaver was snoozing that night. ... the mike [Linked Image]

It is very simple to make a dual use beaver and fox or cat snare,
Start off with a 10 inch loop of 1x19 1\16th inch snare when fully opened which is your basic beaver snare with a loop end to tie off, when making the snare install a small piece of gasline on the snare to use as a whammy. When setting for beaver, just use your dual purpose support\tie off wire as normal.
When setting the snare for fox or cats just tie off the loop with your support/tie wire and leave a tail on it so you can support the 6 or 7 inch loop with the whammy when setting for fox or cats.
A bunch of these snares over the handlebar of your atv or snowmachine and you are ready to set under ice beaver as well as cat and fox jackpots with the same snares.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

That’s sort of what I’ve been doing, thanks.
