How are you bedding the traps? Had you mentioned before that you used something to bed them on or I am I thinking of someone else? Both ofthe traps involved were bedded in firm sand bed. And that sand creates a bit of a suction effect.

Sounds to me like you have 2 legged help. Back during the fur boom if traps weren't just stolen they would stick a rock under the pan or in 1 case trap was stolen one day but back the next welded shut.

Set them No-Bs beaver traps Patrick. They won’t tear them up! Weird deal no doubt. Anything goofy can happen once, but twice………. Caught a deer in a CDR on a drowning rod this winter at a castor mound. He pulled the deep water end. Held it a good while by the looks of things. Glad he finally pulled out lol I'm hoping I end my stay at that location in 2 more days max. I've gotta start another beaver job tommorrow about 45 min drive from home. And meet timber company guy Tuesday to look at couple more sites. Im literally going from one beaver job to next. Also set 6 coyote sets on my 400 acre tract yesterday. Have killed 6 there since February and coyote tracks everywhere lately. The hound - coyote pen across river from me shut down a couple weeks ago...landowner is clearcutting the timber and the fence has been damaged/removed in several places. All coyotes in there are/have scattered to the wind...been getting pics lately of the mangy dam things..

I am going to suggest that the pan got bent upward while you had it preset by jacking the pan all the way up so that it won't close on you in the meantime before you ge to your trapping location. I do that with CDRs all the time. Maybe something violent happened to it while it was preset in that fashion. You could still set the trap level with that bend in the pan, then it could have just crept up too high after you left. (CDRs are notorious for creeping up like that if the night latch is worn down.) 52Carl, I wish it was that simple, but I'm anal about a level pan. I always make 100% sure it's level. And with the night latch filed square there is no way to have a level pan after the click if the pan is bent upward. It can't creep backwards with the squared off end notch once it clicks down.

I can't tell.em.nothin They got mines.of their own.
Jerrys suggestion would.be take.them.home.make sure.theyre level,..where you know nothing can get to the....set.em and see what happens.
He thinks they're creepin somehow.
He knows they shouldn't but he's suspicious cause nothing else.makes sense.

This is a very interesting thread. Other than human meddling I don't see any other possible explanation. I also am curious what is meant by the Crawfish explanation but I am from Wisconsin so that might explain my mind set. I am also of the belief that hidden camera would be the only way to solve this mystery.

I'd be on the move out of there right now partner. You got BIG problems and it aint worth a few bucks for a stinkin beaver. Humans are NOT involved. I can see and read sign people. It's clean sugar sand along edges of water there. So clean that u could see where a mouse walked there. Those traps were not disturbed by humans. Timber company is paying me enough to cover any trap theft...

BTW....this morning had no beaver activity. A dang yellowbelly slider was in the 330 at the panels. The footholds at the scent mound sets were untouched
