This mornings hunt.
Very odd to kill that many fox squirrels in my timber.
Got into a little pod of them and had them paying rent for a bit.

I’m sure most states have an early fall opener of squirrel season.
With the lack of small game hunters in general, and lack of squirrel hunters in particular, states should revisit their opening dates and limits for squirrels.
It’s amazing, and a shame, the lack of small game hunting that takes place anymore.

Little man went 4 for 4 this morning.
1 with his .410 and 3 with my .22
He’s getting cocky lol
51 degrees here this morning, no wind, and crystal clear. Absolutely perfect.
Takes a lot of patience with the little dude. I could have killed a limit in an hour. I remember my dad having that patience with me in the timber. It’s payback time I reckon lol.

Good on you, Clay. I remember my dad taking me squirrel hunting when I was young, and how proud I was of my first squirrel.

Great day for you and your grandson, ours opens 8/1 and has for years nobody hunts squirrels anymore except me and my cousin shame you rarely hear a shot but no competition just like trapping

We got the squirrels. The only reason they close the season here in Missouri is for the young to be raised. Closed from mid Feb. till the last Saturday in May, then it opens back up. So, 2 1/2 months closed and then it opens back up.

3 1/2 months closure actually.
If season ran year around it wouldn’t hurt a thing.
Nobody is killing them in any numbers anyway.

Took the grandson again this morning.
He’s getting better at finding them in the scope, and his eyes are noticeably better than mine! He spotted most of them first. He went 6 for 7 with my rifle. [Linked Image]

And teaching him the most important part. He’s getting the skinning down better every time we go.

Creating a beast right there you should be very proud of your grandson nice to see him involved with putting them up so many don’t get that part of the hunt, dad told me when I was 12 killing deer you cut them up or you don’t kill them hasn’t stopped me yet lol
