Got a question for all the creative minds here on TM. I would like to convert a push mower to be a pull behind for a 4-wheeler. Has anyone attamped this or have their design that they would like to share.

I have researched for ATV pull behind mowers but not finding a smaller and not so sophisticated mower attachment.

Any help and advice or dealer with a unit that I have described would be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

In my humble opinion, not having "break away" blades like brush hogs is a recipe for disaster.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Agreed, without some sort of clutch/breakaway system you'll bog and kill the motor at best or break something (possibly you) at worst.

biggest issue with anything ATV pulled is regulating speed

they tend to be geared to go faster than you might want to mow or pull a tiller , ect..

I thought of things like that for mowing my trails and around the shack. My issue was uneven ground and boulders. I wouldn't want to pull a mower without a safety device to stop blade spinning. I ended up with and old riding mower and removed the blades. I then bolted on a 3/8" flat stock piece of aluminum the width of the blade and about 6 inches long to replace the blade. On each end of the aluminum flat stock I fastened a HDMI block about 3/4" x 1 1/4" . I drilled two holes that were parallel to the ground and inserted a piece of weed whip that is used for walk behind weed trimmers, really heavy duty plastic string. I ended up with two aluminum pieces that replaced the blades with a total of 4 strings cutting. It works surprising well and the trimmer string is easily replaced when they wear out. I live by the saying "it takes one thousand pounds of raw material to make one pound of do it yourself project".

I had the mower or small brush hog made to pull behind a 4 wheeler. Got tired of it jack knifing under the wheel and turns and hills causes issues. Plus you have two separate moters on wheels. I take care of some property I hunt on. Finally we just gave it away and got a short turn mower. Sure makes mowing more easier.

Belt blade drive mowers have that safety factor built in, hit something and the belt will slip.

Guy I worked with built one years ago. Used the mower deck and motor off old rider with blown out transmission. Used the wheels too, wasn't pretty but he used it on farm to mow his path in woods. Which was old logging road.
