3 days of self guided riding in the desert and nearby mountains.

Day one : 2 buddies and myself rode 205 miles of mostly dirt , up into the mountains .

We ran a route that included three different fire lookout towers . Epic views .

We rode right into a thunder storm on the last 40 miles of this loop and got soaked , but that's all part of adventure riding .

Roads less traveled




Out here in the middle of nowhere you don't pass up an opportunity to top off the gas tank , even if it's early in the loop

We came across a rancher on this remote paved road moving his cattle . We eased back as he rode his horse back to greet us . We decided to it would best to take a break and let him get the herd past our turn in the mountains in the picture .

We ate a snack and chin wagged for 30 minutes or so and not one vechile came by . Gotta love it


Giving up that thirty minutes got us soaked at the end of the ride , but the rancher was greatful

It was right after this 3rd tower we started to get drenched , we did pull under some trees for a bit but lighting was all around so we made a run for it . Soaked and cold .... sorry no pics

Day two : we stayed in camp with the wives for the first half of the day waiting for the sun to dry the mud out from the previous night storms

This event had many vendors including Harley Davidson .

They brought a semi truck with at least 20 Pan American adventure bikes .

We signed up for a self guided ( that's right self guided ) demo ride .

We were told to ride up the highway to an old abandoned roadside country store about 8 miles away , then turn around and come back . So we did just that , only we dragged raced several times three wide in that eight miles ......both ways.....we only ran em up to 110-120 not to draw attention to ourselves

550 lbs and 150 hp .....fun fun fun

After the drag race we jumped on our bikes and headed for some epic high country desert . This loop was 110 miles of mostly dirt up to 8 thousand feet in elevation.

Day three : 170 miles , too much pavement on this one . 50 miles on both ends of the loop , the middle 70 miles was pretty good , mostly lower flatter dessert

Good weekend

The three of us stayed upright and no major breakdowns


485 miles + Harley ride 16 miles = 501 miles

Yes, they are. This one has the big bore 440 kit and I'm kind of reluctant to trust it too far from home. Yet. I've been eyeballing a KTM but my wife doesn't think I need four bikes.
