Had a farmer friend borrow my cages for years....he never returned them as he said he was still trapping 'coons. He recently passed and I got call from his son about the cages.
He asked me if I could come pick them up ....all 7 of them! lol

My wife's cousin called and wanted to borrow my tall extension ladder to paint his house. I loaned it to him and he came and got it. About 6 or 7 weeks later, I needed the ladder and I called him and told him that I needed it. He told me, "I'm through with it; you can come get it". I went to get the extension ladder, he had it separated and was using it as 2 straight ladders. No more ladder loans.
Whenever people asks to borrow a live trap or mole traps, I tell them that I don't have any available. That ends it. The guy that runs a local fishing supply store will occasionally borrow one of my squirrel trap cages and he'll call and bring it back when he's through with it. I think he said he caught 20 something squirrels on that building. Other than him, I will not loan out my traps, they are high quality and expensive, plus most people won't return them or they will "loan" them out to one of their friends and that friend may loan it to someone else.

I am this way with tools. It has lost me some friends, I am sure.

When I buy a new tool that is required for some project, my wife always says "Why are you buying one? So and so has one, we'll just borrow theirs..." I just look at her, shake my head in disbelief that she continues to make the same misunderstanding about me after all these years and buy the tool LOL.

Loaned out duck decoys once... never again.
