Thanks! I was not sure if it was a wolf spider I thought thoes spiders are bad. It's the joy of living in the woods

I think they can bite.

Yes, it's a wolf spider. They are bug eaters so beneficial but not completely harmless. They can give you a fairly painful bite.

I had one make a home in my sweat pants one night. I got out of bed in the morning and put them on. I was wearing them a few minutes when I felt something crawling on my thigh. Off they came and out crawls a big wolf spider, don't know why it didn't bite me.

I had the same happend to me and it bite me on my right knee cap!

I'm usually a kill all spiders kind of guy, but just came in from cutting and splitting wood. A wolf spider scared the bejeezus out of me twice and I let him go about his business. The second time, I tossed him into the woods on a piece of wood. Quarter size body and legs everywhere, man I hate spiders.

They grew up to 3" in the Badlands of South Dakota when I worked there and once in awhile got in to the apartment where I stayed.They always got the business end of the broom

I think they are ground hunters. They creep under ground duff and stalk things. They generally jump away when they sense your footsteps. When we built our home and the contractors dug the holes for our deck posts, we had one in the bottom of almost every hole the next morning. Yipes!

I then ran into one at ground level and waged a chemical war against it using about a can of Raid. After it was dead and Raid-soaked, I posed it on a prominent rock along with the can of Raid to form a trophy display for the contractors, who had a good laugh at my antics.

I very rarely kill non-venomous (yeah, I know) spiders. And when I do, it is almost always by accident.

I catch them in my hands and take them outside. Never had one even try to bite.

My wife was working in her flowers late one evening and forgot and left her gloves out there. Early next morning she goes out and put a glove on and it had a wolf spider in it and he took a notch out of a finger. She always shakes all clothing out now, lol.
