New York City Mayor Eric Adams has promised to bring down the city’s harmful carbon pollution caused by the food sector, with a particular focus on meat.

Recently released information shows that, as CBS New York reported, 20% of the planet-warming gases produced by the city come from the food industry’s production and consumption. For comparison, transportation produces 22% of the city’s carbon pollution, while 34% comes from buildings, the New York Daily News also reported.

The mayor aims to reduce the city government’s food-related carbon emissions by 33% in the next seven years, with an eye on the largest culprit — meat.

“Food impacts everything,” Adams recently said, according to the Daily News. “It impacts our physical health, our mental health, our way of life, and today we are saying to New Yorkers, and really to the globe, that it impacts our planet.”

The environmental impact of meat goes well beyond New York City. On a global scale, according to some estimates, the meat industry represents about 18% of the human-generated gases heating the planet, most of which come in the form of methane, a gas that warms the Earth much more efficiently than carbon.

Another environmental issue tied to meat production is the enormous amount of land needed to produce food and/or roaming space for farmed animals. Animal agriculture is the main driver of Amazon rainforest deforestation, especially the cattle industry.

Among the measures taken by Mayor Adams is making plant-based meals the default option in the city’s Health + Hospitals network, as well as launching Meatless Mondays and Plant-Powered Fridays in New York City Public Schools.

He is a moron. He's suing a number of NY counties because they are refusing to take the illegal immigrants he wants to send to them to get them out of NYC.
What a mess this stupid president is causing!

Need to stop feeding New Yorkers, the way I see it. 100% reduction in carbon emissions. Problem solved.

a friend of mine has switch to all grass feed cattle , he runs some park , angus and Hertford mix
he has around 300 acres in pasture but is adding about double that and more in hay the extent of his fuel usage is 2x a year hay he hires in a custom hay operation because he is only feeding over the winter and he gets enough hay in 2 cuttings.

the cattle graze each area 1-2 times in a season and if it only got grazed once it gets hayed once

so basically he runs a tractor over each piece of ground once to cut once to rake and once to bail , with the way the custom hay operation operates they are not on an acre long his fuel to acre would be very low , no fertilizer , almost no pesticide.

really just pasture mix and grazing , he has bales to feed through the winter

yes he is getting marbling it is some incredible beef

soil loss is none actually making soil
no fertilizer
that sounds like a massive reduction in fuel use over his neighbors who plant corn , fertilize , harvest corn , plow , plant cover crop , repeat

this way you cut 75% or more of your fuel use , all of your fertilizer use , no manure to haul in truck after truck after truck after truck if you have ever been near a big dairy when they pump the pit you know what I mean.

So I say we should eat beef

ethanol production seems quite the waste however

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

If livestock aren't grazing land and farting, roughly the same biomass of wild animals is grazing the land and farting. This includes insects. The liberal greenies probably don't know this and if they do, don't want it known.

"We have screened more than 110 represen-
tatives of the different taxa of terrsrial arthropods for
methane production in order to obtain additional information
about the origins of biogenic methane. Methanogenic bacteria
occur in the hindguts of nearly all tropical representatives
of millipedes (Diplopoda), cockroaches (Blattaria), termites
(Isoptera), and scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae), while such meth-
anogens are absent from 66 other arthropod species investi-
gated. Three types of symbiosis were found: in the first type,
the arthropod's hindgut is colonized by free methanogenic
bacteria; in the second type, methanogens are closely associated
with chitinous structures formed by the host's hindgut; the
third type is mediated by intestinal anaerobic protists with
intracellular methanogens. Such symbiotic associations are
likely to be a characteristic property of the particular taxon.
Since these taxa represent many families with thousands of
species, the world populations of methane-producing arthro-
pods constitute an enormous biomass. We show that arthropod
symbionts can contribute substantially to atmospheric meth-
ane."

Termites are the world's largest producer of insect produced methane, around 20 million metric tonnes a year. Every time I hear a liberal politician talk about eating insects instead of beef, to reduce methane production, I am amazed that someone doesn't correct them on the fact that insects make methane too and huge amounts of it.

Keith
