So a neighbor in Charleston wants everyone to donate 250 dollars to round up the strays in the East End and pay to have them fixed. I told her it would be cheaper to take them to the Vietnamese Restaurant and have them made into dinner. Man did this lady take that seriously!!!

I imagine Warrior is right. Modern cats aren't as effective at rodent control as poisoning. BUT,,,,,150 years ago and earlier, cats were all there was. People made crops for self and animals and rodents ate the crops up. So, as much as I hate to agree with Boco on anything, he's right. When I was a kid in the late 50s, dad ran a milk route. I remember the half wild barn cats that I would see in the old grade C milk barns. They didn't get an sustenance from the farmer, only what they could catch; just hung around the barns for the food source, (rats and mice). They were a sorry unhealthy looking lot and weren't tame enough to pet. I imagine most cats now around a farm are pampered fat cats and hunt because they are cats and not mainly for food.

True fact:
During the dark ages, the Church came out and said cats were evil and that everyone should kill their cats. Well, dark age people being what they were and scared of the devil biting them on the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) they killed cats all over Christendom. With the cats gone the rodent population exploded. Rats carry fleas and fleas carry diseases like, bubonic plague. SO, if not directly responsible the lack of cats were at least indirectly responsible for the plagues in Europe.
