Can't go anywhere these days without somebody on my back bumper. I'm already over the speed limit myself........so what is to be gained by this? I'm not going to go faster and you won't get there sooner. So why do it?

I have no patience for tailgaters. Get ready to be sprayed with gravel if you are too close to me.

Carry some large rocks in your bed with the tailgate down, that should make them back off. If not, they are dumb.

But, yes. They seem worse and worse every day.

And even when given the chance, they won't pass, just sit right up on you.

Agreed, why? Same ones that risk life and limb of everyone one on the road to pass, just to get in front, then turn off or stop at the next light with everyone else or get behind an 18 wheeler doing their speed limit. Seems to be all ages and both sexes. Instant gratification culture I guess.

Driving them roads down there is crazy very few straight roads and they are narrow in rural areas but it’s like the KC 500 it’s nuts but it must make them good drivers if they survive the training. I-44 was the worse around Springfield a lot more truck traffic then I-70 has on it.

I tried to get to OK but I-44 was shut down near Joplin I would not get there before closing so I drove back 4 hours to try again the next morning. The next day the exit ramp was still closed must of been a bad wreck 3 person fatal car/truck accident.

I drive a dump truck for a living. Been passed on the berm and on left with oncoming traffic. I dont understand the hurry. They tailgate and cant see anything but my truck. Its funny when they follow me into a construction site and just sit back there thinking we are in stopped traffic.

I don’t worry about what’s behind me.

Now a days around here it seems nobody can read a stop sign and if they do their bumper is sticking out into the intersection.

Tailgaters make me go slower. The more irritated they get the happier I get.

One tactic that works on a highway , if you have a tailgater , put one set of tires monetarily in the rub strip. It will cause your vehicle to vibrate a lot. All the dirt and debris under your vehicle comes off and goes right into their windshield and grille. They back off quick. Plus it does not look intentional.

One of best.......or worst......depends on point of view.........witnessed a 4 car pile up once. Lead vehicle was some sort of service truck.........going down residential street.......speed limit 3o mph.........so not going fast. He stops suddenly to make a left turn and car #2 behind him so close, could not stop and rear ended him. Car #3 then hit him and 4th car in line hit #3.

I get going 70 mph down a road with speed limit 60 mph, but don't get running 10 feet behind a guy doing 65. That isn't a NASCAR event and drafting isn't going to help anybody. Always fun meeting a string of oncoming cars. Some in the line following a safe distance........most are not. If lead car slams on the brakes.......nobody's reaction time good enough to keep from hitting him.

Maybe it's because of my age but when I'm driving I worry and concentrate on what's ahead of me instead of what's behind me. As long as I can stop or avoid something I come up on why worry about what's behind me . Someone wants to tailgate so be it they are behind me and not my worry

That's called defensive driving. Apparently they don't teach that nowadays.

If your headed to OK down 44 there are several ways to loop around Joplin without losing much time or adding miles.

Here they wait to pull out into traffic in front of you even if they are 1/4 mile away, I had several pull out into traffic so I had to put on the brakes then it took them a half mile to get up to speed. The lane changers in KC are crazy I get up at 4 AM to get through that zoo when I’m heading home then I hit Omaha before lunch so there’s less traffic to deal with.

Picked up a truck bed in Butterfield, MO and the GPS took me into OK a different way to get a fuel tank in Pryor I hit I-44 again in OK just in time to pay a toll. LOL

I guess it depends on the situation. It's becoming more common for people to camp in the left lane on a multi-line highway. Why I have no idea. But some states are finally starting to crack down on it and write tickets for it. If you're talking about tailgating on a two-lane country road, then there is no need for it. What I often see happen though is someone is driving slow on a two-lane country road and when there is a finally a place to pass them, they speed up. That's as frustrating as having someone right on your bumper. It's almost always easier to either slow down or pull over and let someone pass you. You don't have the frustration of having them ride your butt and they don't have the frustration of having to ride behind someone driving a lot slower.

And you never know the reason why someone might be in a hurry. There's almost never a concerning reason for someone to be driving slower.

4 lane highway…stay out of the fast lane.
2 lane…don’t speed up when they try to pass.
I can stay behind someone on a 2 lane then when there’s a passing lane they want to speed up like it’s a drag race to the end of the passing lane then back down to the speed limit or slower once the lane ends.
