As bad as tailgating is are the weavers that weave in and out lanes on the interstate. I can't leave a safe distance between the car in front of me without some jack wad thinking it's an opportunity to gain a few seconds on getting wherever they are going.

To understand the tailgating/speeding mentality I recommend interviewing people who drive between the Boysen Reservoir and Thermoplolis, WY regularly. Ive never experienced anything like the morons on that stretch. A close second is Hwy 12 in Nebraska. Im not very worldly so these are the two worst places ive driven. People just pass, no matter the circumstances.

I used to carry one of those little milk boxes of Bb’s in my truck and if I had one really aggravating me I’d toss a handful up in the air out the window. Had a motorcycle rider that tailgated everybody around here but I broke him from following me too close. I had further ammo if ever needed.

Not to one up anyone but I'll put in a claim for Atlanta as worst. The only place I know where you can be going ten miles over the limit and still get a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic. Seriously, that's the law here.

I’ve since mellowed out and just go slower.

Its part of hypermiling.
Drafting, rolling thru stops signs, etc all part of hypermiling.
Really improves your gas milage a lot especially on long trips.

This I believe. Atlanta traffic (well, everything about Atlanta, actually) scares the crap out of me.

You'll quickly get over it here. Not using turn signals is a defensive tactic to drive in Atlanta. If you indicate a lane change on the downtown connector they'll speed up. If you see the opportunity you better take it and not alert anyone that there's space available.

Your best option in Atlanta is pick a lane and stay in it. This means knowing what your lane will be when you get to where you're going.

Turn signals here in the rural country are somewhat of a courtesy besides a safety issue. A driver should let people following them what they intend to do, turn, we’ll before they brake, almost stop and then hit the turn signal for two blinks. They should be used before braking. I don’t know if the middle turn lane is also a merge lane but that’s common here. I try not to jump out in the middle lane and sit there if I’m wanting to get into traffic. That may be perfectly fine, I don’t know.

Down here will drive you nuts then. Most times on the interstate even the Highway Patrol don't even use them here.

I agree on the turn signals on a two lane. Absolutely use them well in advance before you get to your turn.

But I'm one to look in my mirror first to see if there's even anyone back there to even see the signal. But I'm also constantly checking mirrors.

This is funny, HayDay. I read the title of your thread and, being a cheesehead, automatically assumed you were referring to cooking and serving brats and beer out of the back of your truck in the parking lot before a Packers game. laugh

Years ago I saw standard practice in Texas was to pull behind someone driving slow on a two lane and lay on the horn. They usually pulled over so you could pass. Not sure I would pull that these days.

I expected this to be about tailgating , you know with beer , brats , grills in the parking lot of a sports venue
maybe a game of catch
sports apparel
that would be way more fun

you will not find me tail gaiting I like lots of space at 25mph your getting the minimum 3 car length following distance and I mean 15 passenger van car lengths not smart cars

if we are on the interstate speed limit is 70 I think 100 yards is a nice following distance

Good thing there weren't no tailgaters when that idiot pulled out across the highway this afternoon with a large fifth wheel camper from the left to the right shoulder. The car ahead of me went off the road onto grass shoulder, fortunately it was recently completed and level with plenty of room.
