Had my hernia repaired on Monday. A little sore since, but not as bad as I thought it would be. They gave me a prescription for Oxycodone, but I never filled it. Been using over the counter Tylenol and periodically an ice pack over the incision. Makes the pain more tolerable. Glad I finally got it done.

Had an inguinal done about twenty years ago. They put a mesh in. Went better than I feared at the time.
Haven't had any big problems with it other than an occasional feeling of strain, rarely.
I took one of the pain pills and decided not to take any more. Really wasn't needed.

There was a question on the mesh and problems associated with it for a time. I think Lawdog posted a thread about it some time back.
Don't push yourself to hard for awhile.

Left side with mesh 25 years ago, right side with mesh 13 years ago, both doing great, I will admit the right side was a mess at the time so recovery was a bit awkward but not much discomfort

I had the poke 3 holes an inflate you surgery it took me longer then I expected to get my stomach muscle strength back, all good now. I remembered the surgeon was a real Richard after the surgery was over when I dealt with him before one time. If I knew that before the operation I would have found a different Doc to do it.

I have 14” of mesh placed in the layers of flesh so that my organs will not grow to the mesh. Performed about three years ago.

After you guys had surgery and recovered are you able to be strenuous and hyper active with that area like before you were injured? Do you notice any hindrances after recovering from surgery?

I had both sides and the belly button done at same time. Don't care how many he-man stories on how you cut 4 loads of wood next day. If you did your nuts or a liar. I counted the minutes until the next pain pill. Mine had to be opened up. No 3 hole. Cut from hip to hip. But belly button is about 6 inches higher than the other 2 cuts. 6 weeks before I was allowed to do anything. 6 months before ALL three places didn't hurt

You do know it will heal 10 times faster if you take the meds.... Proven fact. You won't get hooked on pain meds instantly like media makes it out to believe. Dr can't legally give you enough to get hooked on them for a simple surgery .
Unless there is prior addiction issues not taking them will slow the healing process. But your circus your pain ....

Hey hernia was following colon resection. The incision was vertical on my belly, like gutting a deer.

As well as needing pain pills a few days, I have a second suggestion. Take antihistamines. Last thing you want to do is cough or, God forbid, sneeze. My surgeon approved.

Back in the saddle in 3 days being both strenuous and hyper active. The only complaint I got was how black things turned.

I found out there were 3 ways to repair an inguinal hernia now. One was the way mine was done a surgical incision and mesh. Another is by a laparoscope. The latest way to repair a hernia is robotically.
I could get in the soonest if I chose the surgeon who did the surgical incision. The robotic repair sounded the most interesting, but it would have been a 3 month wait.

I've never had a drug problem, but the Tylenol on a scale of 1-10 has me around a 1 or 2. Very tolerable. Years ago, I had a minor surgery. I was given a prescription pain pill. I took one that day and got really sick from it. Vowed never to do that again if I didn't have to.

I had two done at one time. I didn't accept their prescription for oxy. Worst part was not being to leave the hospital until you've peed. Wow does that hurt. Pain for a few days. Then anytime lifting 10 pounds or more. Six months to feel 100%. Mesh hurts if I don't eat enough or eat to much. The mesh doesn't stretch. A constant reminder. I'm a skinny guy and push myself constantly.

I had no interest in the drugs they gave me I still have them in the cabinet, over the counter pain relievers worked just fine. Stopped them as soon I could not a med person.

Did everyone get the mesh? Or can you get no mesh?

I had inguinal hernia repaired about 5 years ago. Cut me open , put mesh in and sewed back up. It was on my lower groin, left side. I recovered quick, and was quickly back to 100%. NaturesTonic it’s easy procedure. But let it heal, listen to your post op instructions. Mine was about a 3” bubble. I’ve had zero issues since the surgery. And I don’t cut it any slack, farmer and commercial waterman here.
