Hate to resurrect this but how long before y’all were like “normal”? Like climbing a ladder stand? Maybe even using a climber? I realize I’ll probably miss dove season and early archery season, but later in the season I’m hoping to get after it. If surgery is August 1 then next Spring (late April) I should be ok to climb mountains in the PNW?
And for this isn’t a post to sound like I don’t want to have surgery, if you think that then you’re misreading, lol. I’d do it next week if they had an opening. I can’t walk more than half a mile without having to stop and rest and stretch. I guess my gait is off and it’s killing my back and knee. Just wanting to plan my Fall and next Spring. I had both hips replaced, four years apart. I found in two months, I was totally healed up. Maybe less.

I had left one done about 6-7 years ago at age 67 or so. Mid- February surgery and trapped beaver around a pond using a cane before Kansas season closed end of march. Pretty much totally back in 2 months and don't even think about it any more-good as new. Take it easy on the P therapy at first. Exercises at home are all you really need,

I think it will probably depend on your age and physical condition. I had a replacement at about age 70. Now age 82, Do exercises that doc recommends to get muscles build back up. Careful to not trip or slip, early on, You will set yourself back, and it hurts, bad. Your pain from joint grind , will be gone, but sore muscles will remain for a while. Time will tell how much you will be able to do. Plan on a ground blind, for this year. I agree that wait times, are way too long, but hope you get a n operation booked. soon. Good Luck, But walk before you try to fly. Old 243

My wife had one of her hips done. She was amazed at how quick she recovered and wished she hadn't put the surgery off as long as she had.
I've heard hip replacement is a much quicker recovery time than having a knee replacement or rotator cuff surgery.

Having both done, I can attest knees are harder. it's not the knee itself but all the muscle and tendon "reorganization" that takes time to heal. What the surgeons don't tell you at first is that it takes a year for everything to feel "normal" but you will be back to work in 6-8 weeks. They also say that as good as the replacements are they're never as good as the ones you were born with....
I had both hips done at the same time and was back on the boat working in 6 weeks, but there was soreness for months after. A single hip replacement is pretty easy, barring complications.
Like I said before, find a surgeon that does a lot of them, or better, specializes in replacements, The guy I used practice does a thousand replacements a year, has seen everything and is the guy other surgeons send their revision surgeries to. His team is top notch and can deal with any issue or question. That's the type of place you want....

Actually taking her tomorrow for her 1 year after surgery check. She waited so long that she couldn't walk without a walker and was in pain 24 hours a day. There was no need to go that long but it was her decision. She's had no trouble what so ever, please don't wait.

Well, went to a “class” today for the patient (me) and the caregiver (ex-girlfriend) This is not gonna be a vacation type recovery, lol! I was thinking I was gonna lay around and be pampered a few weeks. Apparently not! This lady said I’d be walking after surgery and every day thereafter. Gotta wear some battery powered compression wraps on both legs of sleeping or sitting more than 30 minutes. Can’t take a full shower for at least 2 weeks. Gonna hurt like crazy for those two weeks. And have to use a walker which is another “class” right before surgery. The good news is I don’t have to go anywhere because they send the therapist to my house. The wife didn’t laugh when I asked if they had pics of the therapist and could I choose the hottest one. She also said it’s not uncommon to be back at work lifting things and climbing ladders by 4 weeks. This therapist must be really good cause I was thinking of stretching it out through the rut in November!! But I just can’t fall within the first 12 weeks because that could really mess things up. So much for relaxing during the hot month!

Ehh, they always give the worst case scenario, lol... That said everyone is different with their pain threshold.... The PT told me that as a rule men complain more than women, and don't work as hard with their therapy..... as always, YMMV...... Good luck.

I been thinking of getting mine done here soon, sounds like the recovery what the Dr told me 1st 2 weeks are tough, 2-3 weeks no driving, 2 months feeling pretty good.
