Hi fellow Snare Men.
Maybe a dumb question but I wonder if any of you using anything else than aircraft/ steel cable for your snares and if so what lock you use?
Anyone using non-metals, ie cords of nylon or else?

Maybe in a survival, stranded situation and all you had was some para cord, boot laces, small strands of electrical wire etc. you need to use what you had available to trap and eat small game. In case of small single or multi strand wire no lock is needed or for nylon/polyester cord. You would need to run your snares frequently as some animals may get away depending upon what animal you are snaring.

However, when talking about larger animals from coon to predators that have good chewing teeth you will have your cord chewed up if they are held too long. Traditional locks typically need a more rigid material to lock down upon.

Many states restrict snares to be only made of steel cable.

Most of these non cable "survival" type snare sets rely upon some sort of spring pole to disable or dispatch the catch for a reason.
